Position Summary

The AR/Collections Technician is responsible for managing patient accounts, posting payments and adjustments, assisting patients with billing questions, and overseeing the self-pay collections process. This role maintains accurate account records, ensures timely billing and follow-up, and coordinates with outside agencies when necessary. The technician also provides cross-coverage for Admissions and supports front desk operations.

Qualifications

Licensure/Certification/Registration:
  • Must be or become proficient with the Meditech B/AR and ADM modules.

Education:
  • Technical or junior college coursework, or a health-related certification.

Experience:
  • Two years of general office experience in a healthcare setting or education/certification in a health-related field.

  • Strong computer skills and experience working with the public required.

  • Knowledge of health insurance recommended.

Essential Functions

  • Post daily insurance and patient payments, refunds, and applicable account adjustments.

  • Manage patient accounts, including monthly billing, account updates, and month-end processing.

  • Oversee the self-pay collections process, including statements, letters, follow-up, and external placements.

  • Assist patients with billing inquiries, payment plans, and discount program applications.

  • Submit accounts to MN Revenue Recapture when applicable.

  • Enter pharmacy remittances and verify automatic payments.

  • Provide cross-coverage for Admissions and support the front desk as needed.

  • Maintain compliance with facility and departmental policies, including HIPAA and the Code of Conduct.

  • Participate in required education and maintain consistent, reliable attendance.

Wage Information

2025 Wage Range: $20.15 – $27.66 per hour
2026 Wage Range: $21.06 – $28.90 per hour
