Fort Garry Industries has an exciting opportunity for a Manager of Purchasing to join our growing team at our Corporate Office in Winnipeg.
This new role at Fort Garry Industries will work closely with the Director of Supply Chain to oversee and manage a team of buyers across Canada, implement purchasing strategies, and form strong relationships with our vendors and suppliers.
What You Will Do
- Manage a team of 5 buyers in Winnipeg and western Canada
- Coordinate with managers to monitor inventory and determine supply needs
- Identify and manage seasonality of product mix
- Track key functional metrics to maximize fill rate, reduce expenses, and improve effectiveness
- Analyze demand patterns, implement strategies secure special pricing to maintain stock levels
- Identify and manage seasonality in product mix
- Build and maintain strong supplier relationships
- Assess, manage and mitigate risks through issue resolution and performance evaluation
- Uphold and embody FGI Customer Service Standards and Core Values with customers, colleagues and stakeholders
- Champion FGI's safety culture by performing all duties within established procedures and practices
- Execute purchasing and inventory strategies for heavy-duty parts
- Other duties as assigned.
What We Require:
- Degree in supply chain management, logistics, or business administration preferred
- 5+ years’ experience in a management role combined with a minimum 2 years in a purchasing role with the demonstrated ability to manage 50k plus in SKU's
- Experience in aftermarket parts or distribution preferred
- Familiarity with Epicor Prophet 21 or ERP systems like SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, NetSuite is an asset
- Excellent customer service skills – dedicated to exceeding the expectations of internal and external customers.
- Strong written and verbal skills – ability to write and speak succinctly with customers and colleagues.
- Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel for data manipulation and reporting
- Strong critical thinking, planning, organization and attention to detail
- Solid judgement and decision-making skills
- Familiarity with vendor management, inventory management and market dynamics
