What You'll Do/Need (Job Summary): The accounting associate performs a variety of accounting support duties and reports to the controller.  The accounting associate is responsible for applying accepted accounting principles and procedures to analyze financial information and ensure appropriate accounting control procedures.  Responsibilities include compiling and analyzing financial information to document business transactions and prepare journal entries, maintain general ledger and subsidiary ledgers accuracy and reconciliation of balance sheet accounts. 

Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Responsibilities)

  • Prepare monthly journal entries affecting bank accounts with supporting documentation
  • Create the monthly loan payment processing by ACH
  • Maintain bank account and credit card account accuracy
  • Reconcile bank and credit card accounts and review with controller
  • Perform certain month-end close tasks (see list)

Month-end process to close from Traverse (Month end close tasks)

  •  Bank Reconciliation
  • Credit Card Reconciliation
  • Record Adjustments GL Entry
  • Review period 13 entries and make any needed adjustments
  • Enter credit card distribution

Other Assignments:

  • Prepare check request for Notes Payable
  • Assist others on accounting staff to ensure they are completing work in a timely manner
  • Process wire transfer request ensuring approval from owner and processing by Huntington

DAILY/WEEKLY/BI-WEEKLY TASKS:

  •  Invoice Shipments
  • Enter time sheets for employees and job costing for each sales order
  • Reconcile freight bills charged against sales orders
  • Pull certificate of analysis for sales orders
  • Maintain bank account and credit card account accuracy

**Some of these tasks may be assigned other accounting personnel, but the accounting associate is responsible to verify that information is complete and accurate.  Before any task is assigned to accounting personnel, it is the accounting associate's responsibility to ensure staff member is properly trained for task.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, skills, and abilities required)

  • A minimum of two to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of principals, practices, and methods of modern accounting and auditing procedures.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Great interpersonal skills and ability to work well with others.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • The worker is subject to inside environmental conditions:  Protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.
  • The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as:  preparing and analyzing data and figures, transcribing, viewing a computer terminal, extensive reading.
  • Sedentary work:  Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.  Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time.  Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
  • Talking:  Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; those activities where detailed or important spoken instructions must be conveyed clearly and understandably both in person and over the telephone.
  • Hearing:  Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with our without correction, and having the ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and making fine discriminations in sound.
  • Repetitive motions:  Making substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands and/or fingers.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is a part-time position.  Days and hours of work are assigned by the Controller and 30 hrs per week.  Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

Travel

This position requires no travel.
