Overview: The accountant is a part of the Finance Team to involve in the general ledger accounting for four funds up to the production of CHT financial statements and reports. They are also responsible for the bank reconciliations and production of its related entries in the accounting system. Other responsibilities include but not limited to: preparation of month end and year end schedules, projection & budget, internal cycle reviews, back up for the accounts payable (A/P) function, review completeness of A/P records, HST submission, maintenance of petty cash, etc.
We are currently recruiting for 1 Full Time, Permanent Accountant. This is a replacement position within the organization.
Responsibilities:
General Ledger (G/L):
- Review, edit and post journal entries
- Review and post Visa entries
- Make accrual, amortization, deferral, adjustment and reclassification entries based on analysis and reviews
- Perform analytical review of the monthly financial statements including determining reasonableness of revenues and expenses and obtain explanations for significant variations from budget
- Perform month end general ledger closing, generate G/L reports, financial statements, departmental income/expense and other reports, as required
- Respond to various inquiries from managers regarding their monthly department expense reports
- Prepare month end and year end analysis schedules; follow up on discrepancies
- Perform G/L year end closing procedures for all funds
- Assist in maintenance of G/L procedures
- Maintain and update chart of accounts for G/L
Bank Reconciliation:
- Review monthly deposit summary and credit card summary prepared by the Accounting Clerk
- Reconcile payment, investment and revenue information with bank statement and input data into the Bank Services Module
- Follow up with bank for any discrepancies and make sure that there is sufficient supporting documentation
- Generate all related reports and journals
- Process stop payment which includes issuing stop payment letter to bank and complete related entries in AccPac and print related reports
Other duties
- Assist in internal and external audits
- Prepare and file monthly HST Self Assessment reporting and semi-annual HST Rebate and reconcile payable/receivable/refund with G/L
- Assist in annual Projection and Budget
- Assist in funding report
- Perform internal cycle audits
- Perform periodic reviews on A/P records (cheque register, A/P batch listings, A/P journals, cheque logs and cheque copy files) to ensure completeness and continuity
- Maintain petty cash, balance and reimburse petty cash on a monthly basis
- Back up Accounting Clerk for all aspects of A/P processing
- Provide other administrative assistance, as required
- Assist in Ad Hoc projects
- Additional duties as assigned
Qualifications
- University Degree in Accounting and Finalist of CPA Examination
- Minimum 3 years experience in accounting
- CPA designation
- Experience in Tax, Assurance, and Financial Reporting
- CPA Senior Level – finalist preferred
- Knowledge and ability to use the following software applications: ACCPAC, Excel and Word.
- Experience with G/L up to financial statement preparation and review thereof
- Has an aptitude for figures, detail oriented, possesses good analytical and self review skills, able to multi-task, demonstrates problem-solving skills, is able to adapt to change and a team player.
