About the Opportunity
The Human Resources (HR) department promotes engagement, commitment, and motivation of staff by developing, implementing, and evaluating effective strategies to enhance productivity, morale, and culture in the organization. We ensure the recruitment of high-calibre ministry staff and support the cultivation of staff flourishing in their roles. HR serves as a resource for Focus Canada staff issues and concerns; assists in the interpretation of policy and procedures, and positively impacts the organization and human resources practices by bringing to bear a strategic perspective enhancing the value of human resources.
What’s the job?
In this position, the Human Resources Coordinator will provide a variety of support services to the Human Resources (HR) department in several key areas that will support the advancement of Focus on the Family Canada’s growth and operational objectives. The key areas include recruitment, onboarding, training and development, special projects, staff events, and personnel records. In addition, the Coordinator will be involved in a number of special projects involving HRIS, HR metrics and research. The HR Coordinator will support the organization in enhancing a thriving internal culture. The position is hands-on, broad in scope and encompasses a varied range of HR competencies. This is a hybrid position, and the applicant must be able to work in the office at the Langley National Office location 3 days a week (after probation).
Key Responsibilities:
Administrative Support: Respond to HR-related inquiries, assist supervisors in performance review procedures, and provide administrative support across HR functions.
Selection and Recruitment: Support workforce planning and recruitment activities, conduct pre-screen interviews, end to end recruitment functions, check references, and manage digital files for new employees.
Onboarding: Ensure new employees are properly set up in HRIS, perform orientations, and conduct health and safety tours.
Personnel Records: Maintain personnel records, ensure confidentiality, and keep information up-to-date on the staff intranet.
Health and Safety: Ensure First Aid certifications are current, provide safety tours, and assist in organizing staff events.
Training and Development: Research training opportunities, identify training needs, and optimize technology for workflow improvements.
Special Projects: Manage recurring annual projects, compile research materials, HRIS project and produce HR metric reports.
Other Duties: Perform additional tasks as required.
About You:
For primary consideration, you must be a well-rounded emerging HR professional with a desire to learn and grow in the field of human resources. You are passionate about using this chosen profession for kingdom work. This may suit a person who is still studying for their designation and wants practical experience in this dynamic, Christian and highly service-driven organization. As an ideal candidate, you will need to bring the following to this role:
You share a deep commitment to the mission, vision, and values of Focus on the Family Canada.
You have a diploma or degree in Human Resources Management; working towards a Chartered Professional Human Resources (CPHR) designation is an asset.
You possess a minimum of three years of experience in an HR support or generalist role, preferably with full recruitment cycle experience. Non-profit HR experience would be a definite asset.
You have a strong knowledge of the Employment Standards Act.
You have experience working with an HRIS.
You thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative work environment, often with multiple deadlines and shifting priorities.
You are highly motivated to complete tasks on-time, with attention to detail
You have demonstrated strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, excellent attention to detail, ability to maintain confidentiality, and sound judgment.
