Accounting Controller

Location: Yuba City, California 

Department: Finance & Accounting 

Reports To: Chief Financial Officer (CFO) / Executive Leadership 

FLSA Status: Exempt 

Position Summary: 

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Accounting Controller to oversee and manage the company's day-to-day accounting operations. The ideal candidate will be responsible for maintaining the integrity of financial reporting, managing standard costing processes, and supporting operational and strategic initiatives through accurate financial insights. This role plays a critical part in ensuring financial accuracy, compliance, and performance monitoring. 

Key Responsibilities: 

• Oversee all accounting functions including general ledger, month-end close, and financial reporting in compliance with GAAP. 

• Manage and set standard costs for products and processes; work with operations and production teams to ensure cost accuracy. 

• Monitor and analyze operational variances against standard costs and provide actionable insights to management. 

• Reconcile all balance sheet accounts monthly and ensure completeness and accuracy of financial data. 

• Lead and coordinate the annual audit process with external auditors, including preparation of schedules, documentation, and responding to inquiries. 

• Supervise accounts payable (A/P) and accounts receivable (A/R) functions to ensure accurate and timely processing of transactions and cash flow optimization. 

• Develop and enforce internal controls to ensure the integrity of financial information. 

• Provide support for budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis. 

• Collaborate cross-functionally with other departments to provide financial guidance and reporting. 

• Assist with ERP system maintenance and improvements, including cost modules and reporting tools. 

• Utilize and develop dashboards and reports using Microsoft Power BI; experience with BI tools is a plus. 

• Act as a strategic partner and internal business analyst by delivering insightful financial data and actionable recommendations to operational and executive leadership. 

• Collaborate with department managers to establish, track, and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) that support operational efficiency and financial performance. 

• Assist in developing and monitoring cash management and customer credit policies to optimize liquidity and minimize credit risk; escalate policy non-compliance as necessary. 

• Prepare and deliver timely, accurate financial reports and presentations for the executive team and Board of Directors, supporting strategic decision-making. 

• Support Human Resources in evaluating and reporting on financial metrics tied to performance-based incentive plans. 

• Mentor and develop the accounting team, promoting a culture of continuous improvement and accountability. 

Qualifications: 

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or CMA strongly preferred. 

• 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 3 years in a controller or similar leadership role. 

• Strong knowledge of GAAP, standard costing, and variance analysis. 

• Experience with financial audits and working with external auditors. 

• Proficiency in accounting software and ERP systems; experience with Microsoft Dynamics is a plus. 

• Advanced Excel skills; experience with Power BI or other data visualization tools highly desirable. 

• Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills. 

• Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
