SUMMARY OF JOB:

The Development and Communications Assistant supports the organization’s fundraising, public outreach, and administrative functions by managing donor relations and assisting with communication materials such as newsletters, social media posts, video content, and digital campaigns. The role also acts as a communications liaison between the property, program, business, and development departments to integrate messaging into consistent, timely storytelling. Essential skills include strong writing, project management, interpersonal communication, and proficiency with fundraising and digital tools. This role is crucial for increasing funding, engaging supporters, coordinating volunteers, and raising the organization’s public profile. The position also provides administrative support and assists with event coordination and promotion.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Maintain accurate donor records in Donor Perfect, track donor information, and support gift processing and acknowledgements.

2. Write and prepare donor thank you letters, emails, and manage thank you calls.

3. Assist in creating and distributing communication materials, including newsletters, social media content, blog posts, videos, etc.

4. Assist in planning, organizing, and executing fundraising events, community programs, and outreach activities with a focus on donor stewardship.

5. Provide volunteer and alumni coordination support, including communication, scheduling, tracking participation, and creating a positive experience.

6. Support website updates and digital platform management using CMS tools, social media platforms, and email marketing software.

7. Capture and edit photos, videos, and written content around the 235 acre property to support storytelling and donor engagement.

8. Maintain organized communication files, branding materials, and content calendars.

9. Collaborate with program staff to gather stories, photos, and updates for use in external communications.

10. Support the mission and values of College Settlement through professionalism, teamwork, and commitment to equity and youth development.

11. Provide administrative support including scheduling, document preparation, filing, answering phones and general office tasks as needed.

12. Perform other job-related duties in the area of responsibility as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Technical proficiency with fundraising databases (Donor Perfect preferred), content management systems, social media platforms, email marketing tools, and basic video

creation software.

2. Strong writing and editing skills for newsletters, social media, donor communication, and marketing content.

3. Attention to detail for accurate donor records, data entry, and communications.

4. Experience with project management and ability to meet deadlines.

5. Strong interpersonal communication skills and ability to engage donors, families, volunteers, and community partners.

6. Ability to work with independent initiative and as part of a team.

7. Mission driven, team oriented, and dedicated to youth development and equity.

8. Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, public relations, nonprofit management, or related field preferred but not required.

9. Ability to lift up to 25 lbs and walk the 235 acre property to gather content.

10. Valid driver’s license.

11. Clear background check and child abuse clearance.


Work Environment

This position operates both in an office setting and outdoors while gathering content. Moving around the 235 acre property on foot or by golf cart is required. The role involves computer based work, event support, and interaction with staff, donors, campers and volunteers.


Physical Demands

This position requires periods of walking the property, carrying equipment up to 25 lbs, set up and tear down events, and navigating steps and uneven terrain. Extended computer work is required for writing, communications, and database management.


Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full time, 40 hour per week position. Some pre-scheduled evenings and weekends are required for events and community activities. After the probationary period, there may be opportunities for hybrid or flexible scheduling. This position offers room for growth.
