Leads, develops, and advocates for high quality, relevant, successful, and sustainable youth programs in Hamilton. Oversees the development of an updated Youth Services strategy that reflects local context and youth needs. Oversees a Participatory Research Youth Action Group (PRYAG), in keeping with the YWCA policies and procedures and quality standards.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Responsible for developing and supporting a Participatory Research Youth Action Group (PRYAG) including coordinating meetings and activities, developing work plans, and supporting the PRYAG to achieve deliverables;
· Engage in needs assessment, mapping of existing youth services, and identifying where the YWCA can meet service gaps;
· Develop a new youth services strategy and programming plan, in collaboration with the PRYAG, Youth Services team and Youth Programs Manager;
· Develops and delivers quality programs for young women, girls, trans, non-binary, and gender fluid youth that support and promote physical, social, and emotional well-being and provide opportunities for leadership development;
· Provides input into program policies and procedures and guides programs to align with YWCA association goals and objectives;
· Develops and evaluates strategies to increase diversity and inclusion and involve youth from marginalized communities into YWCA programs and youth services strategy;
· Works within standards and set procedures, escalates to Manager as required;
· Identifies program needs and makes requests for appropriate supplies and equipment;
· Works with department budget, monitors expenses and reports on revenue targets to Manager;
· Assists with the marketing of programs and events, captures success stories, testimonials, and photographs;
· Offers program information to potential consumers and promotes programs externally;
· Connects with current and potential community partners in order to develop new program initiatives and ensure YWCA’s interests are met;
· Represents the YWCA within the community as required;
· Stays current on issues facing youth in the Hamilton community and beyond;
· Ensures that written records, reports and statistics are accurately documented and maintained;
· Provides ongoing monitoring to assess program quality, and ensures timely reporting processes to community partners and funders;
· Supports YWCA Hamilton mission, vision, and values;
· Participates in mandatory organizational and departmental trainings and meetings;
· Works safely, reports all workplace hazards and follows all YWCA Hamilton Health and Safety policies and procedures;
· Nurtures and forms meaningful internal and external working relationships and partnerships;
· Supports YWCA Hamilton mission, vision and values;
· Performs other duties as required.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
· Works 37.5 -hour work week; regularly on-call rotation for emergencies, crisis situations and resourcing issues;
· Often works in high conflict situations requiring resolution and safety planning for clients and staff.
· Ability to use frequent medium to heavy physical effort: lifting up to 22.7 kg (50 lbs.), bending and stooping.
· Work schedule includes days, evenings, nights, early mornings
QUALIFICATIONS
· Completion of 2 years’ college or 4 years’ university in social work, child and youth work, or equivalent education/work experience;
· Experience working with youth, ages 13 to 29 is an asset;
· Positive Youth Development (PYD) training is an asset;
· Must have current Standard First Aid and CPR certificate or willingness to obtain at own cost;
· Must be able to lead and work from a feminist, anti-racist / anti-oppressive perspective for operations and strategic planning;
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
· Must provide a current Vulnerable Sector Police check or willingness to obtain at own cost;
· Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and also work effectively in a team;
· Bilingual English/French or other languages an asset;
· Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office (word, excel, outlook etc.),
· Valid driver’s license and vehicle is an asset.
