As a Buyer, your responsibilities are to:

General and Task Management
• Procure great quality produce at great value through reliable vendors/farmers to supply retail stores, to ensure continuous supply and communicate any problems which may pose a risk or impact on business operations
• Assess the produce quality upon arrival to ensure the quality is up to the company's standards.
• Monitor market trends, competitor strategies, market suppliers and contact suppliers to resolve price, quality, and delivery or invoice issues.
• Responsible for carrying out logistics duties and develop ideas and strategies to improve operational efficiency, add value, aid business performance and work towards a strategy of continuous improvement
• Manage categorical performance – understanding of pricing and market demands to drive sales and profits and to carry out administrative tasks relating to orders, distributions, claims and invoices.

Cost Management
• Research and evaluate areas of opportunity, reduce costs where possible and collaborate with management to determine consumer pricing strategies and promotions with markdowns and clearance items.
• Analyze quotations and determines the most suitable vendors and products and able to negotiate freight rates for values and terms of business with vendors and review opportunities to make business savings.

Product Management
• Oversee inventory both at Wholesalers & Warehouse, maintain and communicate projections on total inventory by store based on sell-thru and future buys. Ensure all inventories are at optimal levels and appropriate for ongoing operation both at warehouse and wholesalers.
• Identify to management slow moving and obsolete inventory and ensure that action is taken
• Analyze daily stock turnover of stores to ensure inventory on-hand at store level is healthy and sufficient to meet sales objectives.
• Explore market to source for new products and offerings.
• Procure products to offer that meet the needs of customers and carefully review information of potential items and/or obtain samples to ensure produces meets company's needs and standards.
• Present new items to other staff members during sales meetings and demonstrate the features and benefits of each products.

People Management
• Mentor and coach junior Buyers to enhance their career and professional development.
• Maintain a healthy and constructive relationship with co-workers.
• Encourage healthy debates within the organizations.

Relationship Management
• Build, maintain and manage relationships with stores and ensure good communications.
• Develop a strong relationship with the vendors, wholesalers and farmers under mutually beneficial relationships.
• Ensure that a professional and consistent approach is taken in relation to all vendor relationships.
• Support product requests from stores and aim to fulfill retail needs to promote sales activities.
• Meet with vendors and discuss potential needs to help differentiate the brand among consumers.
• Conduct wholesaler and vendor / farmer visits.
• Work with vendors / farmers to ensure on time delivery to receipt of goods and performance of services.

Qualifications:
• Produce industry experience preferred.
• At least 2 years’ experience in a purchasing/buying role.
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
• Outstanding planning and prioritizing skills.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends.
• Well organized with fine attention to detail.
• Team player and people person with superior internal and external customer service skills.
• Self-motivated person who can work well independently with minimum supervision.
