Group Active Instructor
POSITION SUMMARY
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Under the guidance and supervision of the Health & Wellness Director, the Group Exercise Instructor is responsible for instructing group classes in a safe, enjoyable, and positive environment that welcomes people of all skill and fitness levels. Effectively build community within the class. Modify class as needed to meet varied health, ability, and cultural needs. This class is described as all the training you need - cardio, strength, balance & flexibility in just one hour. Get stronger and healthier with inspiring music, adjustable dumbbells, weight plates, body weight and simple athletic movements.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· All Group Exercise Instructors are expected to fulfill the following functions:
· Lead fun, energizing, safe and educational group classes as directed by the Health & Wellness Director, to accomplish the YMCA mission and goals.
· Ask and answer questions from program participants and members to support them in achieving their goals related to health & well-being, within scope of practice.
· Maintain working knowledge of wellness and trends to provide effective information and support to members.
· Build effective, authentic relationships with members; help members and program participants connect with each other and the Y.
· Observe and adjust the approach to support all participants’ capabilities, physical conditions, health and culture.
· Keep accurate class attendance records.
· Follows YMCA policies and procedures; responds to emergency situations.
In addition to the essential duties and responsibilities, the Group Active Instructor will:
· Attain relevant online trainings through LCDC as assigned by Health & Wellness Director
· Pursue/participate in ongoing continuing education training relevant to required training.
· Participate in the annual campaign by giving, campaigning or both
· Attend all staff meetings and other required trainings
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS
· Ability to successfully conduct classes and activities.
· Ability to perform all physical aspects of the position; including leading class, walking, standing, bending, reaching, and lifting.
QUALIFICATIONS
· At least 18 years of age.
· Alarm/Emergency Procedures training within 90 days of hire and annually thereafter.
· CPR, First Aid and Child Abuse Prevention training within 90 days of hire and biannually thereafter.
· New Employee Orientation within 90 days of hire.
· Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
· Ability to solve practical problems and work through situations of varying gravity.
