This role goes beyond daily living—it’s about building trust, fostering inclusion, and creating opportunities for people to thrive. You’ll work under the guidance of a Program Manager and as part of a supportive team, providing care, mentorship, and advocacy for some of the most vulnerable individuals in our community.
The Role
As a Community Housing Support Worker, you will:
- Assist individuals with daily living activities, including personal care, health, nutrition, recreation, and community participation.
- Support life skill development that promotes dignity, independence, and quality of life
- Apply crisis intervention and risk management strategies while promoting positive behavioral supports.
- Recognize behavior as communication and respond with compassion and consistency.
- Collaborate with families, colleagues, and professional partners (MCFD, VIHA, Behavior Consultants, etc.)
- Ensure safe, efficient, and inclusive program operations.
- Build strong, respectful relationships with individuals, families, and team members.
What You Bring
We’re seeking individuals who bring both skill and heart to their work. You’ll bring:
- Diploma/Degree in Social Services, Community Support Work, or equivalent experience (preferred)
- Experience supporting individuals with diverse abilities (preferred)
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently while remaining calm in high-stress situations
- Personal suitability to promote dignity, independence, and individuality
- Physical health and ability to carry out the duties of the position
Requirements
- Valid BC Class 5 Driver's License.
- RCMP Criminal Record Check (Schedule A - Employer will file).
- MCFD Hub Screening (Employer facilitated, required for youth programs).
- First Aid with CPR (Level C), Food Safe Level 1.
- Immunization record or exemption, TB Screen, Physician’s Delcaration
- Signed Bonaventure Hire Package.
- 3 References – (One must be a most recent employer, plus two who must speak to your ability to work with vulnerable youths).
