Position Summary
Advanced Practice/Authorization Support Coordinator (APAS) is an experienced resource in guiding family advocates through the donation conversation and notification process. Provides direct oversight of all family conversations and deployment of the FA staff. Serves as an expert in assessment, intervention and communication with families experiencing trauma and loss. Serves as the lead support for Family Advocates (FA) prior to and after family conversations. When needed will handle emergent phone conversation when on AS call. Identifies and leads training and case debrief needs in collaboration with FA leadership. Will provide field training or precepting for FAs quarterly. Maintains or exceeds LOPAs annual organizational authorization goal. Supports and fosters the vision and core values of LOPA and its commitment to organ and tissue donation.
Essential Functions
Serves as the primary approach support coordinator for day-to-day activity and family conversation.
Provides ongoing coaching, support and guidance to FA and staff that could be involved in family conversation.
Available for dual approaches when necessary telephonically.
When indicated will handle emergent donation conversation telephonically while on AS call.
Identifies opportunities for improvement in field training in collaboration with family leadership and education departments.
Participates in daily huddle calls when on call to help review and identify potential conversation.
Maintains awareness of all activity, clinical triggers and potential conversation.
Maintains knowledge of FAs Strength and skills for deployment needs
Works in collaboration with AOC, OCC and DSC team to optimize timing of family conversations.
Responsible for verifying required documentations is completed on all conversation outcomes.
Maintains current knowledge of educational and training requirements as well as best practices for obtaining authorization for organ and tissue donation.
Maintains current knowledge of departmental documentation requirements and acts as a resource for team members.

Completes all Q-Pulse and Traincaster assignments as required.
Maintains usability of all designated EMR access regardless of usage needs.

Advanced Responsibilities
Leads case debriefs when identified
Leads or Co-leads educational workshops
Works in the field with staff precepting quarterly
Verifies documentation is accurate and completed on all family conversations

Works closely with department leadership to identify areas of improvement for training and individual staff skills.

Work Environment
Possible exposure to communicable diseases, hazardous materials, pharmacological agents with the likelihood of harm if established health precautions are followed.
Possible mental and visual fatigue associated with detailed work.
This position requires travel as needed.
This position has possible exposure to Blood-borne Pathogens and TB.
Employees may at times be in a hospital setting and may have exposure to packaged organs and tissues for transplant and/or research.

Work Hours
Full time Hybrid on-call position work 10-24 hrs AS shifts
Call hour adjustment when working in the field or Training
Weekend and holiday call coverage
Education and Experience
4 years experience in a family service role with proven outcomes.
Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university preferred, or one to two years of related education or work experience and/or training;or equivalent combination of education.
Requires experience in working with families in crisis, strong organizational skills, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and the flexibility to work odd hours.
