About the role

This is a critical role within the Engineering and Manufacturing Business Segment of Kellstrom Defense.  The Quality Manager demonstrates accountability for functional, business, and broad company objectives. This role will focus heavily on People, Process, and Systems and will integrate and develop processes that meet business needs across the organization. You will be responsible to manage complex issues within functional areas of expertise, be involved in long-term planning, and contribute to the overall business strategy.

What you'll do

  • Champion AS9100 and quality and performance alongside preparing the EP site for AS9100 Rev. D Compliance. 
  • AS9100 Subject Matter Expert with the responsibility to support the development, implementation, and management of the Merex Quality Management System per IS0-9001/AS9100/QMS 14001.
  • Work collaboratively with Company team leads and organizational representatives to provide quality support in the fabrication, assembly, integration and test of aircraft parts and components.
  • Validate quality product specifications and quality attributes; measure and document objective evidence; determining operational and performance qualifications; develop and update quality
  • Provide guidance to Engineering during design and specification requirements to best utilize quality processes and techniques.
  • Support first article testing, test analysis, manufacturing processes, process documentation, project workflow and shipping/receiving.
  • Manage quality metrics, trends and Lean activities to improve cost, quality, and schedule performance.
  • Implement a quality culture of root cause analysis and corrective action to prevent future escapes and continuously improve quality.
  • Develop quality plans by conducting analyses; identifying critical control points and preventive measures; establishing critical limits; monitoring procedures, corrective actions, and verification procedures; and monitoring inventory quality.
  • Prepare quality documentation and reports by collecting, analyzing and summarizing information and trends including corrective actions, failed processes, recalls, return merchandise and re-validations.
  • Support the analysis of supplier performance metrics to recommend supplier approval/selection and sourcing decisions.
  • Conduct periodic reviews of manufacturing and quality systems and create improvement cycles based on performance results.
  • Interface with engineering and manufacturing/operations to ensure customer requirements and specifications are flowed down to products and services.
  • Support the company quality performance rating process to continually improve customer satisfaction.
  • Support manufacturing and quality project planning and scheduling to assure a seamless execution and delivery of products and services.
  • Support quality task sequences, planning (work instructions) and workflow for fabrication, assembly, integration, test, and shipping/receiving.
  • Manage Material Review Board activities and control and disposition of the non-conforming material.

Our ideal candidate

Education & Experience 

  • Undergraduate technical or business degree desired with 15 years of professional experience in an aerospace manufacturing environment; or 10 years of professional experience with a related Master’s degree. Considered an authority
  • Experience in all elements of Quality from design to assembly/integration/test.
  • Quality engineer or related discipline, with AS9100 certification or training.
  • Experience in Lean/Six Sigma, 5S and Continuous Improvement.
  • Experience with the control and disposition of the non-conforming material.

Skills and abilities

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, and relevant applications.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and deliver technical presentations.
  • Solid analytical skills and solution-driven thinking.
  • Detail-oriented to accurately prepare statistical reports and technical documents in support of company objectives.
  • Strong business/technical writing, presentation, planning, problem-solving, organizational, project management and decision-making skills.
  • Able to create and maintain enthusiasm for new and challenging goals.
  • Serve as a role model by promoting new ideas and positive change. 
  • Current knowledge of manufacturing technology, productivity, and quality measurements, and material/planning systems requiring continual review of methods to optimize productivity.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple complex initiatives simultaneously in a fast-paced environment is a must.  
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S
