The Role

As a Horticulturist/Orchardist, you will play a crucial role in supporting the maintenance of the beautiful Saunders Farm grounds. Working closely with the Operations Manager and other team members, you will contribute to creating a safe, enjoyable, and memorable experience for farm visitors. Your responsibilities will encompass various tasks that help maintain the farm’s plants, gardens, trees, and apple orchard.

• Maintain and care for Apple Orchard.
• Implementing landscape maintenance plans for gardens and outdoor spaces.
• Planting, pruning, and maintaining trees, shrubs, flowers, and other plants.
• Installing various landscape materials like mulch, rocks, sod/seed, ect.
• Conducting regular inspections to identify and address pest and disease issues.
• Applying fertilizers, pesticides, and other treatments as needed.
• Maintaining equipment and tools used in horticultural tasks.
• Keeping accurate records of work performed and materials used.
• Other job related duties as assigned.

To be successful in this role, you will need:

• Experience maintaining an orchard considered an asset.
• Education or proven experience in landscape maintenance and garden care (Minimum of 3 years experience).
• Attention to detail, a commitment to upholding safety standards and guest satisfaction, ability to follow instructions accurately.
• Physical fitness and the ability to stand, walk, and perform physically demanding tasks for extended periods, in various weather conditions.
• Flexibility in working hours, including weekends, holidays, and evenings.
• Positive attitude, enthusiasm, and willingness to contribute to a fun and energetic atmosphere.
• Strong knowledge of plants and tree species, their growth requirements, and common pests and diseases.
  
• Proficiency in operating horticultural equipment such as mowers, trimmers, blowers, and sprayers.
• Able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
