In Red Deer, Alberta, we have partnered with Central Alberta Orthopedics, a likeminded group of Orthopedic Surgeons with a commitment to providing excellent care in musculoskeletal care, pain management and reconstructive surgery, to open our 14th clinic. Our new clinic will be offering leading edge spine services for patients in Central Alberta.


In this role you will provide initial assessments of referrals and treat acute and chronic MSK and sports-related injuries, including acute muscle, tendon, ligament and joint injuries, chronic overuse injuries, pain related and degenerative conditions.  We currently have opportunities available in a multitude of clinical areas.  



Patients referred for non-surgical musculoskeletal spine conditions will be assessed for appropriateness for interventional medical procedures.  As a member of a multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary team, your expert opinion in conjunction with medical colleagues will determine if patients would benefit from imaged guided injections, radio frequency ablation or other treatment options. 


Chronic MSK care patients are referred both internally (from Orthopedic Surgeons at CAO and other MSK care providers) and from external referrals from the community. MSK clinic management include a complete initial assessment and establishing a working diagnosis. A treatment plan is put in place and close follow-up is established. Patients who need a surgical assessment are referred as an internal referral to the appropriate orthopedic surgeon. The goal of the MSK clinic is to optimize patients' conservative management and refer onward for specialized care as required. 


Patients are seen at the USG Clinic when interventional/injection therapy is indicated. Typically, they are seen when they have utilized all conservative management modalities. They can be a direct external referral from the community or internal referral from the surgeons. Various injection therapies are offered, including corticosteroids, viscosupplementation, prolotherapy, PRP, and all injections are done utilizing point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) guidance. Tendon procedures are referred to local/internal Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation specialist. 


Acute musculoskeletal injury clinic for injuries less than 8 weeks old, preferably 2 weeks. Done in conjunction with physiotherapy. Comprehensive assessment, conservative management including bracing, rehabilitation and expedited advanced imaging and surgical referral.


  • Active Certification in the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CCFP) 
  • Experience in MSK Point of Care Ultrasound (an asset)
  • Acute musculoskeletal injury management experience (an asset)
  • Team physician experience (an asset)
