NorthWind is currently seeking a Program Manager to join our team. The successful candidate will manage the completion of environmental liability program(s) on behalf of our Upstream oil and gas clients in Alberta. This position will be based out of our Edmonton or Calgary office, although remote working arrangements can be explored for the right individual. A successful candidate will manage a team of office and field staff and play an active role in project management, field planning and support, and reviewing and signing off on technical reports and submissions for a variety of projects and service areas. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background in contaminated site assessment and remediation, reclamation assessment and supervision, and management of sites through to reclamation certification, as well as contribute to the professional growth of NorthWind team members through training and mentorship.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 10 or more years of reclamation and remediation experience, including Phase 1, 2 and 3 Environmental Site Assessments (ESA) and associated reporting.
  • Superior program and project management experience, specifically managing environmental liability for upstream oil and gas licensees in Alberta.
  • Expert technical knowledge of Alberta Environmental Reclamation & Remediation Criteria and Guidelines applicable to environmental liability management in the upstream oil and gas sector.
  • A demonstrable understanding of Alberta Environmental Criteria and Guidelines.
  • Degree or Diploma in Environmental, Natural or Soil Sciences. 
  • Professional status or eligibility for professional status with AIA, APEGA, or ASPB.
  • Solid range of experience with pre- and post-reclamation assessments and reclamation certificate applications.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational abilities.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy within a team environment.
  • Experience supervising, training, and coaching others.
  • Proficient at software for word processing and data management.
  • Valid Alberta drivers license.

The successful candidate will primarily be office-based, with the opportunity to assist and supervise field work (depending on the candidate’s preference), with the following responsibilities:

  • Manage the completion of assessment, remediation and reclamation projects within a client program or program(s), ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget.
  • Ensure financial accountability of program – creating budgets, monitoring, and controlling expenditures ensuring work is completed to client expectations.
  • Senior review and sign-off of technical work within program, as well as to support the completion of other NorthWind client programs as required.
  • Field support and supervision, as required, to ensure program needs are being met.
  • Responsible for delegating tasks to Senior and Intermediate project managers working within client program(s).
  • Function as a coach and mentor to team, ensuring staff are developed to their full capability. Ideally will include on the job (site) training to enhance training and mentorship within the program.
  • Work as a member of a team to promote a culture of teamwork to ensure a high level of employee morale, productivity, and engagement.
  • Establish and maintain positive and effective client relationships to ensure continued project support as well as renewed or expanded work.
  • Communicate with Vice President(s) regularly to ensure program needs are being met.
  • Consult with clients, regulatory bodies, and landowners.
  • Provide required information to clients through defined reporting protocol.
