Team Leader & Climbing Instructor
The Team Leader position is for people that are excited about rock climbing and have a strong desire to learn more and share their excitement for climbing with our community! Our team leader's role is to maximize the guest experience, introduce new people to the sport of climbing, maintain and enhance our crag!
Job Duties

- Supervising guest activities and provide incident/emergency response if ever needed.
- Providing facility orientations and certifications to new guests (including belay and lead climbing tests)
- Continually engaging with customers throughout shift to create an awesome and connected community
- Front desk work (guest check-in, membership and day pass sales, answering questions by phone, email, and face to face)
- Working with customers in our retail shop (providing gear recommendations, sizing support, and answering questions on products)
- Teaching climbing classes for for adults & youth with a close adherence to our written curriculum
- Create daily class notes for youth classes taught
- Event staff (belaying, leading games/activities, and monitoring/supervising the event).
- Facility housekeeping
Job requirements
- High school graduate (or equivalent).
- 18 years or older.
- Previous climbing experience (1+ years preferred) and ability to pass a top rope belay certification and lead climbing certification.
- Previous customer service work/experience (1+ years preferred).
- Ability to climb at a 5.9 or higher level.
- Ability to stand for duration of shifts (4 hours minimum).
- Ability to wear a climbing harness and perform top rope belay for others for 2 hours without a break.
- Applicants must have weekday evening (4pm to 10:15pm) and weekend availability (8am to 8pm). Team Leader roles have primarily weekday evening and weekend house.
- Ability to walk up and down stairs and over soft/uneven surfaces (e.g. soft padded bouldering flooring) while providing assistance to others.
- Ability to clearly communicate with customers in person, on the phone, and via electronic messaging (e.g. e-mail).
- Ability to use a personal computer using standard input devices (mouse/keyboard)
- Ability to lead groups (6 or more people) including providing clear verbal instructions, group management, and conflict resolution.
- Ability to lift and move boxes up to 30 lbs without assistance from others.
- CPR/First Aid Certification (American Red Cross certifications are offered semi-annually)
- Climbing Wall Association (CWA) Climbing Wall Instructor (CWI) Certification (certification courses are offered semi-annually)
- Must pass a criminal background check.

Compensation
- Starting compensation $15.50/hr with pay increases for staff after completing CWI and CPR certifications and basic job training, completing ÜG Youth Climbing Instructor training and working regular youth program coaching shifts (2 classes per week) for 6 months, and/or becoming an advanced climbing instructor (teaching lead climbing and movement classes to ÜG's defined course curriculum).
