SUMMARY OF FUNCTION: The Head Coach is a seasonal stipend position responsible for teaching the fundamentals and advanced skills of Volleyball, coordinating assistant coaches and volunteers for practices, coaching league games, and coordinating the end-of-season banquet. This position may be an extra-duty if performed by a current teacher, or may be performed by a temporary worker.


Season Dates: August 14, 2024-October 8, 2024

Reports to: Academy Director and Athletic Director

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

  • Previous coaching experience and/or participation at the middle school level preferred 

  • Knowledge of and ability to teach basic skills and fundamentals of sport

  • Excellent people-skills and ability to communicate well with athletes, parents, and administrators

  • Positive sportsmanship ethic and strong team-building skills

  • Must complete School District 11 Sports First Aid Course or have current First Aid card AND Concussion Protocol training 

  • Must pass a criminal background check or have a current CO teaching license

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Organize effective practices, teaching basic skills and fundamentals and coordinating assistant coaches and volunteers as needed

  • Assist athletes in setting and attaining long- and short-term personal and team performance goals

  • Supervise athletes during practices until parent pick-up 

  • Promote a positive team atmosphere by modeling positive sportsmanship and encouraging academic achievement

  • Inventory and maintain relevant athletic equipment, provide end-of-season order for needed replacements

  • Directly supervise athletes at home and away games 

  • Stay informed of rule changes, trends and recommendations that affect the sport 

  • Maintain and publicize appropriate individual and team statistics and records 

  • Organize end of season banquet, including distributing athletic awards in accordance with school policy 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: This position requires workers to walk or stand for long periods; lift and carry up to 50 pounds; run, jump, climb stairs, bend, crouch, squat, crawl, kneel, balance, reach above head and shoulders, hold, twist at waist, push, pull, grasp and turn objects, etc. The work requires the ability to speak normally and to use normal or aided vision and hearing. This job requires emotional stamina and personal stress management to maintain a positive approach with students, parents, and colleagues, including students with very high energy and possibly low impulse control, and students, parents, and colleagues who demonstrate intensities that can accompany gifted behaviors.
