Business Development Officer

Whittier Trust seeks an experienced professional looking for a position with a top tier wealth management firm that caters to high net worth individuals and families.  The Business Development Officer will have primary responsibility for gaining new client relationships in the Pacific Northwest  The Business Development Officer will work in the Seattle and Portland offices both independently and as a team member in managing the sales process effectively in order to generate new business, and will build strong, long lasting relationships with centers of influence, all of which contribute to enhancing the business development culture of the Seattle and Portland offices and increasing the new revenue they attract.





  • Collaborates with the Seattle-based team of professionals in implementing companywide business development strategies and objectives in the Seattle and Portland offices, including identifying and calling on potential prospects and referral sources.

  • Participates in the planning and implementing of marketing events for the Seattle and Portland offices.

  • Enhances brand awareness of Whittier Trust in the Seattle/Portland area.

  • Cultivates strategic new business relationships for the Seattle and Portland offices.

  • Maintains Salesforce database as needed.

  • Jointly executes a comprehensive business development plan which displays high level of activity to acquire new wealth management opportunities.  Duties may include preparing sales presentation materials, developing a calling plan, etc.

  • Responsible for creating contact management input, sales, expense and other internal reports.

  • Has the ability to manage multiple projects and remain flexible through multiple revisions while keeping a keen attention to detail.

  • Performs special projects and additional tasks as assigned.






  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university.

  • 5+ years of experience in the financial services industry with an emphasis on business development

  • Natural affinity for business development, driven to achieve results and effective in cultivating strategic new relationships.

  • Well-connected and actively involved in the Seattle or Portland community.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; public relations and copywriting experience a plus.

  • Knowledge of financial services industry.

  • Experience with or willing to learn Salesforce.

  • Superior organizational skills with ability to multi-task and to manage and prioritize a high level of business development activity.

  • A high degree of personal integrity and the ability to exercise independent judgment.

  • Ability to learn new processes and programs.

  • Ability to manage lengthy sales cycle moving multiple prospects from identification of opportunity to onboarding new relationships.
