Your Role 

The Prospect Researcher is responsible for identifying new prospects, providing research and creating research profiles, lists and other research documents to support the strategic priorities of the organization. 
 

This is a full-time hybrid position that requires travel to Ronald McDonald Houses and applicable events in Alberta. Some evening and weekend work will be required

By identifying new donors, uncovering meaningful connections, and informing strategic fundraising decisions, you help ensure that families have access to a compassionate, stable home-away-from-home during their most difficult moments. Your research and analysis fuel the resources that keep our Houses operating, expand essential services, and uphold our mission to remove barriers, promote healing, and keep families close when children need healthcare the most.


 

Your Key Responsibilities 

Prospect Research & Data Analysis 

  • Proactively identify new donor prospects using external information, external data mining, extensive relationship mapping, etc. 

  • Attend prospecting meetings with CDO and other members of the development team to capture prospect information and appropriate intel 

  • Using a broad spectrum of resources, research, organize, and evaluate a prospect’s financial capacity, ability to give, inclination to give, charitable interests, and connection to Ronald McDonald House Alberta’s mission & values 

  • Proactively track and disseminate donor and prospect-related information. Monitor news and publicly available financial information on prospects from SEC filings, press releases, and major newspapers 

  • Produce in-depth, well-written reports on prospects and donors by synthesizing and analyzing information obtained from internal and external sources 

  • Develop and implement proactive prospecting methodologies to identify potential supporters and track status internally 

  • Gathering and analyzing data; identifies donor gift capacity through the analysis and clarification of complex information 

  • Track all constituent relationship activity, profiles, research & information in Raiser’s Edge 

  • Maintain an awareness of best practices in prospect research, management and pipeline development through ongoing professional development and networking 

  • Maintain an understanding of current FOIP – knowledge of Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy - information and adherence to the guidelines 

Grant Writing 

  • Manage grant calendar, track deadlines and the process of applications 

  • Plan and oversee the grant process from commencement to submission of full proposals 

  • Ensures compliance with funding requirements 

  • Manage all stewardship deliverables 

  • Point of contact for existing grants and funding partnerships 

  • Ensure grant, donor and gift information are up to date and accurate in Raiser’s Edge 

All other tasks as required 

 

Required Qualifications 

  • University degree, preferably in Library and Information Science, or acceptable equivalent education or training 

  • 5 years’ related research experience within a not for profit or charity 

  • Proficiency with Raiser's Edge and IWave, including database management, data mining and analysis and report generation with demonstrated knowledge of prospect research principles, practices and tools 

  • Demonstrated strong project management and problem-solving abilities 

  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion 

  • Ability to work remotely & independently 

  • Understanding of Canadian business landscape, financials and corporate annual reports 

  • Demonstrate an aptitude for analyzing and interpreting data, and for synthesizing complex information from multiple sources 

  • Excellent writing skills and experience in business case writing 

  • Ability to travel within the province of Alberta  

  • Must provide a clear criminal record check
