Electrical Plans Examiner

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Electrical Plans Examiner to review electrical construction plans for residential and commercial projects. This role ensures compliance with the Florida Building Code, National Electrical Code (NEC), and applicable local regulations. The ideal candidate has a strong technical background, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to communicate clearly with design professionals and applicants.

Key Responsibilities

• Review electrical plans, calculations, and specifications for code compliance
• Ensure adherence to the Florida Building Code, NEC, and local amendments
• Identify plan deficiencies and issue clear, professional correction comments
• Coordinate with permit technicians, inspectors, engineers, and applicants
• Review revisions and resubmittals in a timely manner
• Document plan review findings accurately in electronic permitting systems
• Provide technical guidance and clarification on code requirements
• Stay current with changes to electrical codes and regulations

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent (technical degree preferred)
• Minimum 3 years of experience in electrical plan review, inspection, or electrical design
• Strong knowledge of NEC and Florida Building Code – Electrical
• Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, one-line diagrams, and load calculations
• Proficiency with electronic plan review systems (Bluebeam or similar preferred)
• Strong written and verbal communication skills

Required Qualifications

• ICC Electrical Plans Examiner Certification
• State of Florida Electrical Inspector or Plans Examiner license
• Electrical Engineer (PE) or equivalent technical background
• Experience reviewing residential, commercial, and industrial projects
