PROJECT LEAD – SPECIAL PROJECTS & KITTING OPERATIONS

JOB DESCRIPTION

 

Position Overview

The Project Lead is responsible for executing client-driven special projects with a primary focus on kitting, assembly, and value-added services. This role bridges client requirements with warehouse execution, ensuring projects are completed accurately, on time, and in a way that does not disrupt core warehouse operations.

This position requires strong floor leadership, attention to detail, and the ability to organize people, inventory, and processes under tight timelines.

Key Responsibilities

Project Execution

·       Lead and execute special projects including kitting, rework, relabeling, and custom client requests

·       Translate client instructions into clear, executable workflows for the warehouse team

·       Build and maintain project plans, timelines, and labor requirements

·       Ensure all components are available and staged before project start

Kitting & Assembly Operations

·       Oversee the full kitting process, component verification, assembly, packaging and final QA

·       Ensure finished goods meet client specifications and are sale-ready

·       Identify and eliminate inefficiencies in kitting workflows

·       Maintain organization of components, workstations, and finished product

Inventory & Accuracy

·       Verify all materials, SKUs, and quantities prior to project start

·       Partner with Inventory Control to resolve discrepancies quickly

·       Ensure proper system movements (WMS) for all project-related inventory

 

Team Leadership

·       Direct and support team members assigned to projects

·       Set daily priorities and hold team accountable to productivity and accuracy standards

·       Train team members on project-specific requirements and best practices

·       Step in and work alongside the team when needed to maintain pace

Quality Control

·       Implement and enforce quality checks throughout the process

·       Ensure labeling, packaging, and configurations match client requirements exactly

·       Prevent errors before product reaches outbound

Communication

·       Act as the primary point of contact between Operations, Customer Service and Leadership for assigned projects

·       Provide clear status updates, risks, and completion timelines

·       Escalate issues early with solutions – not just problems

 

Qualifications

·       1-2 years previous warehouse experience required; outbound or shipping experience preferred.

·       Forklift and double pallet jack experience required

·       Experience using RF scanners for order picking required

·       Experience in a 3PL or fast-paced distribution environment strongly preferred

·       Ability to prioritize tasks and communicate clearly with team members

·       Familiarity with WMS systems and shipping documentation preferred

·       Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy

Physical Requirements

·       Ability to stand, walk, lift, and move throughout the warehouse environment

·       Comfortable working around dock equipment and varying warehouse conditions

·       Able to lift 50 lbs. repetitively
