OVERVIEW:

The SLP will provide and direct Speech Therapy services to patients to include assessment and treatment, development and implementation of programs, and related professional in-services. Performs duties under the direction of physician’s orders.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

ï‚·Provides Speech Therapy services to patients and initiates referrals when appropriate and in accordance with Speech Therapy Department procedures.

ï‚·Conduct screenings of patients at regular intervals to determine need for intervention/treatment.

ï‚·Evaluates patients to obtain data necessary for treatment planning and implementation. Conducts specialized evaluations as indicated.

ï‚·Interprets and communicates evaluation findings to patients, family, and other team members.

ï‚·Establishes individual patient schedules in conjunction with other team members.

ï‚·Develops treatment plans by identifying a problem list, including short and long term goals and methods to achieve identified goals.

ï‚·Coordinates treatment plan with patient, family, and other team members.

Monitors patient’s response to intervention and modifies treatment as indicated to attain goals in accordance with physician orders.

Recommends and obtains appropriate equipment to improve patient’s communication. Instructs patient, family and staff in use of augmentative communication devices.

ï‚·Participates in discharge planning.

ï‚·Develops appropriate home or community programming to maintain and enhance the performance of the patient in their own environment.

Documents results of patient’s assessment, treatment, follow-up, and termination of services.

ï‚·Supervises students and volunteers in accordance with state regulations.

ï‚·Assumes responsibility for ongoing continuing education and professional development.  

ï‚·Records indirect and billable treatment times according to Speech Therapy Department procedures and submits weekly/monthly statistics to regional office.

ï‚·Provides treatment in accordance with established standards of practice, department procedures and productivity standards.

ï‚·Complies with all Infection Control, Universal Precautions and OSHA standards for the health care professional.

ï‚·Adheres to established confidentiality standardï‚·Assist in the Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) process

QUALIFICATIONS:EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:

Master’s Degree in Speech-Language PathologyCertificate of Clinical Competency

ï‚·Current state licensure or license eligible

ï‚·Maintains education and development appropriate for position

ï‚·Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (with AED)

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

ï‚·This position has no supervisory requirements

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

ï‚·This job operates in a health care setting. This role requires regular walking to various locations around the care center.

ï‚·Incumbent may be exposed to virus, disease and infection from patients and specimens in working environment.

ï‚·Incumbent may be required to work extended periods of time at a video display terminal.

ï‚·The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

ï‚·While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift or move office products and supplies, up to 50 pounds
