001N - Seasonal Wildlife Keeper/22 weeks

Job Purpose

This position assists with the care to sick, orphaned, and injured wildlife as a service to residents of DuPage County and benefits local wildlife ecology and populations, as well as education about native wildlife.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist staff with captive rearing and rehabilitation of native wildlife, including birds, mammals, reptiles, and amphibians (i.e.:  prepares diets, cleaning and   disinfecting cages, dishes, towels, etc.)
  • Maintains progress notes
  • Provides routine cage maintenance (i.e.:  replacing habitat furniture, perches, and decorations; painting and repairing nest boxes)
  • Transports wildlife for release in a new setting
  • Perform other duties as required

Education and Experience Required

 Additional Information: Must be 18 years of age or older at time of hire.

Hours:  Mid April - September; 22 weeks; hours/days vary and include weekends and holidays.

Related Experience:  Experience in wildlife rehabilitation and animal keeping preferred.

Special training or other licenses, certification,etc.:  Must have a valid Driver’s License.

Skills In:  Observing, handling, and controlling a variety of wildlife; prioritizing and managing multiple tasks; working independently, making sound decisions quickly; working closely and communicating effectively with others; use a variety of equipment and tools for cage maintenance.
