The Kids Cancer Care Foundation of Alberta is passionately dedicated to helping young people affected by cancer and their families survive and thrive in body, mind and spirit. Position Overview
Kids Cancer Care is looking for Seasonal Camp Staff to work at our residential summer camp. This is a seasonal position reporting to Senior Staff, and Program Coordinators. Camp Staff support and supervise campers during all scheduled activities, ensuring Camp Kindle remains a safe, fun, and educational setting. Our Camp Staff are caring and positive role models to campers and are camper-focused at all times. They are responsible for planning and implementing camp programs, helping with food preparation and clean-up, as well as other miscellaneous tasks related to caring for children in a diverse setting.
Key Areas of Responsibility
In accordance with the approved Kids Cancer Care policies, the Seasonal Camp Staff will be responsible for following the operations, protocols and services related to Camp Kindle:
Specific
- Build a relationship with each camper in your group and proactively support them through activities.
- Support and supervise campers through daily routines including wakeups, mealtime, rest, bedtime, and transitions between activities.
- Identify the needs of all campers and manage a variety of group dynamics.
- Create and organize lesson plans and lesson materials.
- Update lesson plans and materials based on experience and feedback.
- Facilitate camp activities with enthusiasm, using varying teaching techniques to engage campers.
- Work with supervisors to promote weekly themes and organize weekly special events.
General
- Positively contribute to Camp Kindle by working well with all members of the camp community.
- Complete preliminary training and engage in ongoing training provided by the camp Program Manager, camp Program Coordinators, Food Services Manager, and Maintenance Manager.
- Accept and incorporate constructive feedback.
- Adhere to Camp Kindle’s three pillars of respect: 1) respect for self, 2) respect for others, and 3) respect for the environment.
- Act in the best interest of participants.
- Attend and contribute to weekly staff meetings.
- Participate in site set-up, cleaning, and organization before and after camp groups arrive.
- Assist with other camp programs as needed.
Qualifications
- Applicant must be between 15 and 30 years of age to be eligible for the Canada Summer Jobs Grant.
- Post-secondary education in a relevant field is an asset.
- Previous summer camp experience is an asset.
- First Aid and CPR-C Certification including AED.
- Wilderness First Aid is an asset.
- NLS is an asset.
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Must provide a current Criminal Record Check including Vulnerable Sector Search (can be obtained through Kids Cancer Care).
Start Date
Spring/Summer, April – August 2025.
Location
Camp Kindle is located in Water Valley, Alberta, about an hour Northwest of Calgary.
