Who We Are:

Heritage Park is Canada's largest living history museum and offers visitors a chance to experience life in Western Canada from the 1860s to the early 1950s. The Park features historical buildings, costumed interpreters, working antiques, and various exhibits that provide insight into the region's past.

Job Overview:

Under the direction of the Education Program Specialist, the Day Camp Lead Hand assists with the preparation, implementation and evaluation of the Prairie Explorers (ages 6-11) day camp program. 

Responsibilities:

Program Delivery & Camper Experience

  • Lead and support the development and delivery of engaging day camp programs and activities
  • Adapt activities as needed to ensure inclusive participation and positive outcomes for all campers
  • Build positive, respectful relationships with campers, parents/guardians, and caregivers
  • Assist with communication between camp staff and parents/guardians as required

Daily Operations & Supervision

  • Support day-to-day camp operations, including check-in and check-out
  • Assist Youth camp facilitators with camper supervision, activity delivery, and campers needs
  • Conduct scheduled rounds throughout the park to monitor camper safety and well-being, offering support to team as needed
  • Prepare program materials and deliver supplies to camp locations
  • Lead or assist with daily camp set-up and clean-up
  • Lead or assist with start- and end-of-day Camp facilitators meetings

Staff Support & Leadership

  • Assist with training, orientation, and mentoring of the team
  • Provide guidance and leadership to help staff feel confident, prepared, and supported in their roles
  • Step in to provide camper supervision, activity delivery and support of facilitator and camper needs when required (i.e. in the event of unforeseen circumstances)

Administrative & Departmental Support

  • Support the Education Department with administrative tasks as needed
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

  • Contribute to inspiring and immersive experiences at the Park through your roles and responsibilities by engaging in Heritage Park initiatives that align with the overall mission and vision of the Park
  • Demonstrate commitment to workplace health and safety by complying with Heritage Park's Health, Safety and Environment Management System (HSEMS), following safe work practices, reporting work-related incidents, injuries and hazards, participating in employer training, and adhering policies including the Code of Conduct and the Workplace Violence and Harassment Policy

  • Demonstrate responsible stewardship of our people, collections and financial assets by ensuring that they are handled with integrity, sustainability, and a focus on long-term benefits for the organization and its stakeholders

Required Qualifications:

  • Completion of secondary education required; post-secondary education in a related field (Education, Western Canadian History, Recreation, etc.) is considered an asset
  • Previous experience working with children in a youth program, camp, or similar setting is required
  • Experience supporting children with special needs is considered an asset
  • Standard First Aid and CPR certification required (training provided by the Park if not already certified)
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills
  • Enthusiastic, reliable, and passionate about working with children and youth
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in a client-facing environment
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced setting
  • Flexible, adaptable, and solutions-oriented
  • All successful candidates must be over the age of 18 and will be required to go through a Police Information Check as a condition of employment

Special Clothing and Equipment:

  • Appropriate costuming and safety equipment will be provided by Heritage Park; 
  • Footwear, as designated by the Heritage Park Costume Department, will be provided by the employee.

 Special Working Conditions:

  • The position will be exposed to weather extremes and will work both indoors and outdoors;
  • This position is physically demanding, and the incumbent must be able to lift heavy items, stand for long periods, and walk throughout the Park for extended periods.

Hours of Work:

  • Hours will vary depending on Youth Program schedules
