Position Overview:

The Programming Coordinator, Experiential & Comedy assists the Senior Director of Programming and the Programming Specialist, Experiential and Comedy to plan, design, and produce non-music/non-visual arts based programs, helping with all project elements, within the scope of established timelines and budgets in order to meet and exceed both customer expectations and ArtsQuest’s budget impact. This position also works within the ArtsQuest Comedy Program in a number of ways, most prominently as a technician responsible for the efficient production of comedy shows.


Job Responsibilities:



  • Assist the Sr. Director of Programming and Programming Manager, Experiential & Comedy to conduct market research and identify program opportunities in order to generate interest in new or re-imagined events which deliver upon the organization’s mission and deliver net revenue to support programs and operations.
  • Generation and processing of contracts and payments for performers, vendors, and anyone else being paid for participation in an experiential event.
  • Expected to attend all Experiential Committee meetings.

·         Expected to be at a majority of experiential events to assist with their operation.



  • Works with the Comedy staff to effectively and efficiently run the lights, sound, and any other pertinent audio/video needs for comedy shows to the specifications set forth by the Sr. Director of Programming and/or the Programming Specialist, Experiential & Comedy.
  • Generation and processing of contracts and payments for performers, directors, and anyone else being paid for participation in a comedy-related event.
  • Expected to attend all Comedy Committee meetings.
  • Maintain awareness of national comedy trends and local comedy programming.
  • Maintenance of the Comedy Class Student Database.
  • Assistance within the SteelStacks Improv Comedy Festival, including, but not limited to: maintaining the database of submissions, communications with performers, and organizing headliner hospitality.



  • Projection of films (this position will be expected to serve as a cinema projectionist for at least one shift per week):
    • Set up and adjust picture projectors and screens to achieve proper size, illumination, and focus of images, and proper volume and tone of sound.
    • Monitor operations to ensure that standards for sound and image projection quality are met.
    • Observe projector operation in order to anticipate need to transfer operations from one projector to another.
    • Start projectors and open shutters to project images onto screens.
  • Must have ability to speak in front of audiences with ease.
  • Must be able to effectively and efficiently promote upcoming cinema programming in front of an audience.




Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • This position will regularly work on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays; ability to work flexible hours including as many as 4 evenings per week, weekends and holidays, when necessary.
  • Previous work within the events and/or comedy industries is a plus, though not required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite Programs, such as Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook. 
  • Hearing and listening skills must be of a level that is able to recognize differentiations in a soundtrack or film picture.
  • Excellent eyesight and manual dexterity.
  • Excellent customer service skills; must be a very good communicator and have the ability to work with guests, clients, and other team members.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; vocational or technical school training, Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in related field a plus.
  • Excellent communication skills; verbal, written and interpersonal
  • Ability to professionally interact with people, issues, and in emergencies.

Employee is frequently required to travel between our facilities, all within 1 mile of one another using reliable transportation as well as to meet with potential donors. Employee may be frequently required to travel offsite for business meetings as needed.

Working sometimes long and unusual hours especially during festivals and events, including evenings, weekends, and holidays is common

  • Hours of operation can vary dependent on scheduled festivals and events.
  • Workplace can include an office environment indoors year-round and outside during festivals and events when needed.
