003P - Seasonal Veterinary Pre-Professional (Willowbrook)

Job Purpose


This position is designed specifically for one veterinary student and one veterinary technician student.  The student will work under the direction of Willowbrook’s Staff Veterinarian and Animal Care team, providing professional medical services to help injured wildlife of DuPage County.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Provide routine and emergency care to a variety of species of wildlife (avian, mammal, reptile) and administer appropriate treatment

Assist with medical, diagnostic and surgical procedures

Assist with euthanasia and postmortem examinations as needed

Monitoring health of patients; completing medical and procedural records

Assist in checking on maturity, development, and recovery of animals

Perform other duties as required

Education and Experience Required


Additional Information: Must be 18 years of age or older at time of hire.

Hours:  May 21st – August 24th; 40 hours per week (includes weekends and holidays)

 

Related Experience:   Background or familiarity with wildlife rehabilitation philosophy.

 

Special training or other license, certification,etc.:  Current enrollment with completion of the first year (1) of degree in a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) program from an accredited institution or current enrollment with completion of the first year (1) in degree in Veterinary Technician Program (CVT) from an accredited institution.    Must have a valid Driver’s License; current on tetanus and rabies vaccinations.
