About the Role
TREO Staffing is seeking a highly skilled Maintenance Lead to join operations at the Port of New Orleans. In this role, you will lead the maintenance team while also performing hands-on maintenance and repairs on heavy mobile equipment. Approximately 80% of your time will be spent working directly on equipment, with the remaining 20% focused on administrative, scheduling, and leadership responsibilities.
You will help ensure equipment availability, operational efficiency, and compliance with HSSE and ISO standards, making you a key contributor to the facility’s success.
Responsibilities
Hands-On Technical Work (80%)Perform maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on heavy mobile equipment, including forklifts, cranes, and loaders.
Lead by example in performing preventive and corrective maintenance tasks.
Troubleshoot using mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical schematics.
Prioritize maintenance activities based on operational needs and equipment availability.
Conduct inspections to ensure compliance with Health, Safety, Security & Environmental (HSSE) standards.
Determine when repairs should be completed in-house vs. by third-party vendors.
Schedule and assign daily workloads through a CMMS (Maximo preferred).
Track purchase orders, inventory, and parts usage.
Provide daily updates to Asset Management and Operations teams.
Document maintenance activities and ensure compliance reporting is accurate and complete.
Mentor and guide the maintenance team, supporting skill development and performance.
Monitor KPIs such as equipment availability, PM compliance, and downtime reduction.
Maintain safety, environmental, and ISO compliance across all activities.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Technical or vocational training in heavy equipment maintenance preferred.
5+ years of experience in heavy equipment maintenance required; leadership experience preferred.
Strong technical proficiency in diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical, and mechanical systems.
Experience with CMMS software (Maximo strongly preferred).
OSHA 30 certification is a plus.
Welding or forklift certifications a plus.
Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and on-call situations.
Must have a valid TWIC card.
Skills
Advanced troubleshooting and diagnostic abilities.
Ability to read and interpret complex mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical schematics.
Proficiency using diagnostic tools, hand tools, and computer-based maintenance software.
Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and minimize equipment downtime.
Preferred Skills
Experience with inventory management and vendor coordination.
Familiarity with ISO standards and compliance.
Budgeting and cost-control awareness for repairs.
