Role Overview: 

PCC is seeking a Part-Time Family Support Specialist (FSS) to build strengths-based, trusting relationships with children, youth, and parents. The FSS works closely with families and collaborates with the Child and Family Team (CFT) to implement highly individualized, family-centered Plans of Care. 


This role involves direct engagement with youth and families, including in-home visits, one-on-one coaching, participation in team meetings, and collaboration with families as they work toward stability, healing, and growth. Family Support Specialists help families develop consistent routines, strengthen emotional communication, and navigate complex challenges with empathy, structure, and encouragement


This role includes active engagement with youth through everyday activities that support connection and well-being. The Family Support Specialist should be comfortable participating in movement-based activities with youth, such as going for walks, outdoor play, light exercise, or other recreational activities that promote healthy engagement and relationship-building. This position involves regular, direct engagement with families in the home and community settings, providing practical support and guidance to help families strengthen skills and maintain a safe, nurturing home environment. The FSS works alongside parents, caregivers, children, and youth to encourage progress toward identified goals while fostering trust and consistency.


This role is ideal for a compassionate professional who excels in both one-on-one support and collaborative teamwork with a genuine commitment to helping families feel seen, supported, and empowered. This role requires flexibility, independence, and the ability to work effectively both in the field and within multidisciplinary team settings.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Build rapport and establish a safe environment to foster emotional connection with families.
  • Assess and identify areas of concern for parents and children, using a nurturing and trauma-informed approach.
  • Encourage open communication of emotions and feelings within families.
  • Provide individual and group coaching for children and parents as needed.
  • Support families in processing challenging situations and establishing consistent daily routines.
  • Promote engaging and educational activities as part of family development.
  • Engage youth through supportive recreational activities such as walks, outdoor play, or other movement-based engagement that supports emotional regulation and connection.
  • Serve as a positive role model, demonstrating mindfulness, regulation, and understanding.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent (required).
  • Associate’s degree or coursework in social work, mental health, or related fields (preferred).
  • Experience working with children and families (required).
  • Understanding of trauma-informed care principles and practices.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Proficiency in using computer software for documentation and reporting.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for home visits.

Preferred Skills:

  • Creative problem-solving to meet family needs.
  • Experience managing stressful situations effectively.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Additional language skills are valued.

Schedule and Work Environment:

  • Part-time role, 15–20 hours per week.
  • Flexible afternoon/evenings hours, with occasional weekends as needed.
  • Compensation: $21.00 – $24.00 per hour.
  • This role includes active participation in community-based activities with youth and may involve walking, outdoor recreation, and other movement-based engagement during visits.
  • Ability to participate in movement-based activities with youth, including walking, light exercise, an outdoor recreation.
  • Ability to remain active for periods of time while supporting youth during community outings and recreational activities.
  • Ability to model active engagement while maintaining a supportive and encouraging environment.

Community-based and Hybrid work environment:

  • In-person responsibilities include client home visits, travel to the PCC office for training/events, Woodland Retreat Center, and community locations.
  • Online responsibilities include virtual team meetings and digital documentation/reporting.
