Job Description:   

This position is accountable for managing the activities of delivery drivers and assistants who deliver pre-sold products to customers’ locations throughout servicing counties.  This is a front-line leadership role working directly with our Delivery Drivers and Assistants, Customers and Account Managers.  Reporting to the Delivery Manager, this position works closely with the Drivers and Warehouse to ensure safe, accurate, on-time deliveries to our customers. 

 

Job Duties

  • Supervises drivers with leadership and communication and develops teamwork; fosters cooperation between drivers and warehouse employees. 
  • Observes safe work habits and coaches to improve safety at all times; conducts safety checks. 
  • Reviews with Delivery Manager the delivery routes to help determine route profitability and proper logistics.  Debriefs drivers on time windows and improvements that can be made to avoid delays, reduces mileage and increases cases per route.  Follows up with drivers for feedback after route changes. 
  • Trains delivery drivers to work safely and efficiently at all times and retrains when expectations are not met.  Provides feedback to delivery drivers on progress from observations, accuracy of deliveries using Encompass, customer service and performance. 
  • Provides follow-up training with all delivery drivers and assistants on work related injuries, near misses and collisions. 
  • Discussions with drivers on loading and selection issues for follow-up with warehouse supervision for improvement in stacking, securing product and the proper loading to prevent damage and improve unloading efficiencies. 
  • Reviews productivity, accuracy reports, and new hire training process to best service our customers and perform safe productive deliveries.  Take appropriate action as necessary. 
  • Mentors and oversees new delivery drivers and assistants. 
  • Tracks performance of all drivers through ride-withs and conducts spot checks. 
  • Ensures good working relationships within the department and with other departments, communicates effectively with associates and managers. 
  • Monitors Delivery Drivers to ensure proper procedures are being followed. 
  • Adheres to all OSHA Safety Requirements, DOT regulations, and Federal and State laws for the delivery and distribution of goods. 
  • Communicates to driver associates their responsibilities and requirements. 
  • Communicates with Delivery Manager regarding delivery issues. 
  • Assists with accident and injury investigations as needed. 
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GEDrequired. 
  • 3-5 years ofDelivery Supervisory or Delivery experience. 
  • Ability to work with computerprograms associated with the performance of the position. 
  • Good oral and writtencommunication skills, ability to work well with all levels of the organization,to organize, prioritize, negotiate, manage, motivate others and solveproblems. 
  • Decision making, thoroughness and time management a must. 
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Ability to manage and motivate associates. 
  • Able to work independently and as an effective member of a team. 
  • Knowledge of geographicareas. 
  • Class A CDL licensed required. 
  • Clean driving record. 
  • Ability to pass a background investigation and drug and alcohol test. 
  • Prior beer or beverage industry experience preferred. 

 

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has supervisory responsibilities – delivery drivers and delivery driver assistants 

 

Essential Job Functions:  

Physical 

  • Constant sitting for prolonged periods while performing desktop activities and/or traveling. 
  • Constant use of both hands/arms simultaneously reaching/handling/grasping/fingering while performing desktop activities, handling paperwork. 
  • Frequent bending at waist/knees to and from seated position. 
  • Frequent squat/kneeling, walking, sitting, retrieving materials from lower areas. 
  • Occasionally lift/carrying typically less than 20 lbs., can be up to 160 lbs., normal office supplies, equipment, higher weights due to occasional emergency product deliveries to customers. 
  • Constant use of sight, hearing and speech abilities in performance of essential job functions required. 
  • Frequent contact with moving equipment. 
  • Use of smart phone and company issued electronics and equipment 

 

Mental 

  • Able to evaluate facts and figures. 
  • Able to organize/prioritize and possess self-motivation to meet daily demands, fast pace, heavy volume. 
  • Able to pay close attention to detail and deal with a variety of issues with constant interruptions. 
  • Able to work with all levels of employees and customers. 
  • Requires effective memory recall regarding products and customers. 
  • Ability to handle difficult situations and problem solve. 
  • Work stresses include meeting work schedules and constant interacting with others. 
  • Effective time management to meet work schedule and high service standards. 
  • Multi tasking skills with frequent interruptions.
