HIM Analyst II

SUMMARY:

Monitors daily workflow activities and system functioning within the department. Acts as backup for Prep/Scan/Indexing, Master Patient Index, Analysis, and Physician Liaison staff as needed. Prepares monthly, quarterly and year end reports for governmental agencies.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provides assistance to the Director of Health Information Management in managing the Health Information Management department to ensure that patient documentation adheres to organization and regulatory standards.

·         Maintains current working knowledge of HIM departmental applications and how they are used in department operations.

·         Designs, configures, tests, documents, and maintains programs/applications.

·         Assist with the planning, design, development and deployment of new application modules and enhancements to existing applications.

·         In collaboration with the network and infrastructure IT teams, assist with managing all EHR, and associated system software upgrades and including testing of such and communication of all changes to effected departments.

·         Completes month and quarterly QA reports.

·         Serves as a resource in finding innovative ways to resolve operational issues/barriers.

·         Obtains concurrence from director and supervisors in how, when, and where to incorporate changes and enhancements.

·         Is actively involved in the planning, testing, training and installation of new features and fixes to the electronic medical record.

·         Directs and participates in the various system maintenance functions.

·         Reviews and analyzes EHR deficiencies.

·         Conducts daily monitoring of HIM queues to ensure internal workflows are operating correctly.

·         Assist with conducting ongoing education and training to all users.

·         Keeps abreast of all pertinent federal, state and facility regulations, laws and policies as they presently exist and as they change or are modified.

·         Determines records to be released by reviewing requestor information in accordance with HIPAA guidelines and obtaining pertinent patient data from various sources, including electronic, off-site, or physical records that match patient request.

·         Willing to cross-train in order to better assist co-workers and to provide maximum efficiency in department.

·         Work professionally, collaboratively and effectively with all levels of the organization while fostering trust advisor relationships and cooperation of others while promoting a positive, participative culture and work environment.

 

REQUIRED for the position:

  • Minimum of 5 years of HIM or other relevant experience.
  • Excellent analytical, technical, and organizational skills demonstrated through prior HIM experience
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member across multiple teams
  • Ability to develop, document and ensure adherence to technical standards
  • Ability to independently research and perform analysis to resolve complex issues
  • Ability to understand customer requirements and their impact on technical directions of a solution
  • Must be self-motivated, detail-oriented and able to manage one’s own work independently in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities
  • Excellent customer service orientation, including good communication skills
  • Must be able to maintain professionalism and react to customers appropriately while exhibiting the highest level of customer service
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office tools

DESIRED for the position:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Health Information Management, Clinical Informatics, or another related field.
  • Strong understanding of healthcare business process and technology
  • Basic understanding of clinical workflows
  • Healthcare HIM experience in acute care or ambulatory care settings
  • Working knowledge of HIM pracitices
