Location: Skilled Nursing Facility - Orange, NJ
Job Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) / Infection Preventionist to join a skilled nursing facility and support both clinical leadership and infection prevention programs. This is a dual role that combines hands-on nursing leadership with responsibility for overseeing the facility’s infection control and prevention efforts in accordance with CMS, CDC, and state regulations.
This position works closely with the Director of Nursing, clinical leadership, and interdisciplinary teams to maintain high standards of resident care, regulatory compliance, and survey readiness.
Key Responsibilities
Infection Prevention & Control
- Oversee and manage the facility’s Infection Prevention and Control Program
- Conduct surveillance, tracking, and reporting of infections per CMS and CDC guidelines
- Ensure compliance with NHSN reporting requirements
- Develop, implement, and update infection control policies and procedures
- Conduct routine audits, observations, and risk assessments
- Lead outbreak response, exposure management, and mitigation efforts
- Provide infection prevention education and training to staff
- Participate in QAPI and Infection Control Committee meetings
- Support facility readiness for state and federal surveys
Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) Responsibilities
- Assist the Director of Nursing with daily clinical operations
- Provide clinical oversight and guidance to nursing staff
- Support staffing, scheduling, and coverage as needed
- Participate in performance management, coaching, and staff development
- Ensure nursing practices align with facility policies and regulatory standards
- Assist with care plan oversight and interdisciplinary collaboration
- Step in as DON designee when required
Qualifications
- Active NJ RN license
- Prior experience in a skilled nursing facility or long-term care setting
- Experience with infection prevention and control in a healthcare environment
- Strong working knowledge of CMS, CDC, and state regulatory requirements
- Familiarity with NHSN reporting preferred
- Previous ADON, Infection Preventionist experience required
- Strong documentation, organizational, and communication skills
- Survey and compliance experience strongly preferred
