Job Purpose

This position assists in the quality control of the Mosquito Management Program within the Ecology department.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

·       Perform field sampling and identification of target insect species

·       Test insects for viral presence and manage target insect species using ecologically sound scientific protocols

·       Collect GPS data and enter data

·       Perform wildlife surveys, native seed collection, control of invasive and exotic plants using herbicides

·       Keep neat and accurate records

.     Perform other duties as required

 

Education and Experience Required

Additional Information: Must be 18 years of age or older by the first day of employment.

Hours:  May 14th - November 2nd (or until first-frost, whichever arrives earliest); up to 40 hours per week (may include evenings and weekends on occasion)  

Preferred Experience:  Experience in Ecology and/or Restoration, Conservation, or Wildlife Management, or other ecological area of the appropriate discipline.  Preferred candidate will have previous experience with insects or other wildlife, and experience with natural resources management or related field.

Special training or other license, certification, etc.:  Must have an undergraduate degree or be in the process of attaining an undergraduate degree in Ecology, Natural Resources Management, Biology, Botany, Fisheries Management, Invertebrate Ecology, Wildlife Management, or related field; as well a possess a valid Driver’s License.  Must be able to pass the Integrated Pest Management exam to qualify for Operator’s License within one (1) month of employment.

Skills In:  Work independently and fulfill tasks with attention to detail and willing to work in a variety of inclement weather (heat, cold, rain within reason).
