Lead Teacher
POSITION SUMMARY
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening the community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Under the guidance and supervision of the Childcare Director, the Lead Teacher is responsible for providing direction for the program and classroom, and implementing program curriculum, along with providing a quality experience to children and parents that focus on the Y values.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
All Lead Teachers are expected to fulfill the following functions:
1. Ability to design, organize and implement age-appropriate and developmentally appropriate daily lesson/activity plans including zoo phonics.
2. Ability to solve practical problems and work through situations of varying gravity
3. Maintain continuing education credits (STARS) required by state licensing
4. Supervise the children, classroom and all activities in a safe environment
5. Conduct parent conferences and maintain positive relationships and effective communication with parents.
6. Maintain required program records
7. Attend and participate in family nights, program activities, staff meetings and staff training.
8. Understand ratios and youth staff, know the number of youth in the program at all times
9. Communicate effectively the behavior of the child and not the character of the child. 10. Facilitate transportation safety
11. Ability to problem-solve staff absences.
12. Maintain clean youth areas.
13. Respond to any and all safety risks across the youth center.
In addition to the essential duties and responsibilities, Lead Teachers will:
● Pursue /participate in ongoing training
● Participate in the annual campaign by giving, campaigning or both
● Attend weekly staff meetings
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS
● Ability to perform all physical aspects of the position; including leading class, walking, standing, bending, reaching ,transitions and lift up to 40lbs.
● Ability to work in a fast paced environment and switch tasks as new challenges and projects emerge.
QUALIFICATIONS
1. At least 18 years of age.
2. Alarm/Emergency Procedures training within 30 days of hire and biannually thereafter.
3. CPR, First Aid and Child Abuse Prevention training within 30 days of hire and biannually thereafter.
4. New Employee Orientation and Listen 1st or other alternative training within 30 days of hire.
5. Previous experience working with children in a developmental setting is preferred.
