Staff Architect
OLBN is currently seeking a Staff Architect to support our A/E design studio in Rockville, MD. This position provides an excellent opportunity for a highly motivated and hard-working, established architect to join a dynamic group of Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC) industry professionals in a technology driven, collaborative environment. The Staff Architect will support OLBN’s architecture team in the development of architectural calculations/analyses, construction documents, specifications, and other design documentation as well as virtual reality modeling. The successful candidate shall be highly competent and possess progressive technical experience in architectural design and detailing, building codes and standards, and associated product knowledge. In addition, the successful candidate shall be a motivated self-starter who values teamwork as well as individual contribution/accountability and is passionate about advancing their career. OLBN is a full service architectural and engineering firm providing Architectural, Engineering and Construction (AEC) support services for both Governmental and Commercial Clients, with our primary project types being interior office space (GSA/Commercial), laboratories (NIH) and transportation facilities (WMATA). Our Rockville studio is located approximately one-half block from Rockville Metro Station, and our projects are throughout the DMV area.
Basic Requirements:
Education: Bachelor of Architecture Required / Master’s Degree in Architecture and/or Professional Degree Preferred
Certifications: Registered Architect (RA) preferred; Industry certifications and/or affiliations preferred
Background: U.S. Citizen or legal resident with ability to pass background investigation
Key Skills and Responsibilities:
- Supports design activities as part of the design team, performing independent design development.
- Has responsibility for executing independent design activities with minimal oversight, reviews and interprets, with minimal guidance, established codes, design standards, regulations, and other industry information to ensure proper application on design projects.
- Assists in the mentorship and training of Junior Staff members.
- Works on multiple technically complex projects at various stages of completion concurrently.
- Coordinates efforts with other architectural, engineering, and technical staff, both internal and external, to ensure accuracy and technical proficiency of project submissions.
- Works closely and interacts regularly with OLBN clients.
- Participates in or leads field surveys and assessments of existing conditions.
- Highly proficient with computer aided design/drafting software (AutoCAD, Revit) in the development of accurate technical designs and construction documentation.
- Prepares calculations, reports, and specifications to support project requirements.
- Works effectively under pressure while meeting established budgets and schedules.
- Supports quality control and quality assurance of all deliverables with a focus on personal accountability and continuous improvement.
- General understanding / familiarity with technology (hardware and software).
- Position’s primary focus will be on architectural design/production but will be provided experience in other design disciplines as part of their regular performance.
- Position involves overtime, as required, to meet project deadlines.
