OVERVIEW: Reporting to the Northern Care Program Supervisor, the Community Coordinator is responsible for being the first line of contact for the Northern Care Program homes and House Parents, conducting weekly checks on the homes, providing transportation to and from the airport, and collaborating with the Guardian Agency.
KEY RESPONSIBILITES:
- Recruitment of local community members for House Parent, Respite, and Support Worker roles.
- Be the first line of contact and support for the Homes and House Parents.
- Working closely with Northern Care Program Support Work Coordinator and Case Managers.
- Providing transport to and from the airport, community store, and Northern Care Program office/accommodations.
- Conduct weekly home visits to provide support and maintain awareness of homes.
- Supervision of the children in the home when needed for short periods of time.
- Conduct unannounced home visits at Case Manager’s, Supervisor’s, and Program Manager’s request.
- Assisting Respite and Support Workers in completing timesheets and submitting them to the Support Work Coordinator
- Travel to city to participate in training and Northern Care Program Community staff meetings.
- Remind, follow up with, and receive monthly individual reports from House Parents.
- Cleaning, organizing, and preparing accommodations; as well as submitting Work Orders on items that need to be fixed and communicating with Visiting Home Coordinator for home to remain stocked with essentials.
- Maintain regular communication and a positive relationship with Southeast Child and Family Services.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Grade 12 education.
- Knowledge of Community-based resources.
- Demonstrate knowledge and/or understanding of Indigenous perspectives, First Nations culture and traditional philosophies.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a community-based environment with a high attention to detail.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to communicate in Ojibway.
- Must have a valid Manitoba driver’s license and a reliable vehicle with the ability to provide a clear drivers abstract.
- Must have a current satisfactory Child Abuse Registry Check, Adult Abuse Registry Check, Criminal Record check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), and Prior Contact Check as conditions of employment. (This does not necessarily mean you will not be eligible to work for SAI).
