We are a nonprofit that services our state’s diverse community by supporting families through tragic loss, during the donation process, and along their grief journey. What is a Family Advocate? 

Our Family Advocates play a crucial role in providing opportunities for organ and tissue donation by identifying and assessing potential donors. Our Family Advocates support and employ effective strategies to guide donor families towards the decision to donate while also fostering stronger relationships with our hospital partners. Their key responsibilities are as follows:

  • Contributes to our mission by facilitating authorization for organ and tissue donation by empowering families to make an informed decision and creating a legacy for their loved one.
  • Honors the decision of First Person Authorization.
  • Collaborates with hospital partners to assess family dynamics and the patient's prognosis in real-time to ensure a timely donation conversation.
  • Addresses obstacles to donation through meticulous planning and preparation.
  • Engage with donor families to facilitate meaningful memory-making activities in honor of their loved ones, ensuring compassionate support throughout the process.


What are the specifics? 

What You’ll Bring

The Organ Procurement Industry is unique, but generally we find that people with experience in the following industries can be successful in this position: 

  • Registered Nurse, Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) Medical Social Worker, Clinical Psychologist, Crisis Social Worker or Crisis Specialist, Crisis Therapist, Victim Advocacy, mental health professional, or related field.
  • One to two years of related education or work experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education.
  • Requires experience in working with families in crisis, strong organizational skills, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and the flexibility to work odd hours.
  • Bilingual preferred but not required.

Schedule

  • Full time, on-call position
  • Call requirements ten 24 hour shifts, twelve 16 hour shifts, or combination of each
  • Holiday and Weekend call coverage rotation
