Cook - SHOAL Centre
Join Beacon Community Services as a part-time Cook, an exciting opportunity to cook for various programs from the SHOAL Centre in Sidney. Reporting to the SHOAL Food Service Manager, the Cook is responsible for preparing nutritious and appetizing meals for our dine-in services, assisted living residents, catered events, and other programs. This role is vital for ensuring high-quality, delicious meals are created to meet dietary needs and preferences. The cook will work closely with the Food Service Workers to maintain a positive and collaborative work environment that encourages participation.
Days/Hours of Work: Friday and Saturday 10:00 am to 6:00 pm. There will also be opportunities to work various other shifts for special events, sick and vacation coverage, etc.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Plan, prepare, and cook a variety of meals, including breakfast, lunch, and dinner, according to established menus and dietary guidelines
- Serve nutritious, great tasting and well-presented meals as directed by the manager
- Maintain a clean and organized kitchen, including washing dishes, cleaning equipment, and sanitizing work areas following food safety and health regulations
- Follow best practices for food storage and rotation
- Follow Foodsafe best practices and maintain the sanitation of food preparation areas
- Work closely with other kitchen staff, volunteers, and program coordinators to ensure the smooth operation of food services
- Complete timesheets and time off requests accurately and on time
- Performs other related duties as required
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Completion of a foundational culinary arts program or a combination of education and experience – preferred
- Previous experience in a Long-Term Care Facility and or previous food service establishment experience is considered an asset
- FOODSAFE Certificate
- First Aid with CPR Certificate
- Driver’s license and access to a vehicle preferred
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- A passion for cooking
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
- Ability to work quickly, safely and efficiently in a commercial kitchen
- Ability to organize work and operate related equipment
- Ability to interact effectively with residents, families, co-workers, members of the multidisciplinary team and the public
- Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position
