The Opportunity
We are seeking a reliable and dedicated Maintenance Worker to join our team for the summer camp season. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring the camp facilities, grounds, and equipment are maintained and safe for campers and staff. The Maintenance Worker will perform a variety of tasks to keep the camp environment clean, functional, and welcoming.
Qualifications & Skills
Facility Maintenance:
- Perform routine inspections and repairs of buildings, cabins, restrooms, dining halls, and other camp facilities
- Handle basic carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and HVAC tasks as needed
- Ensure all windows, doors, and locks are functioning properly and secure.
Groundskeeping:
- Maintain the camp’s outdoor areas, including mowing lawns, trimming shrubs, weeding, and ensuring pathways are clear of debris
- Ensure all camp roads, walkways, and trails are safe and free of hazards
- Care for camp gardens, trees, and landscaping.
Safety & Emergency Maintenance:
- Respond to emergency repairs or hazards promptly (e.g., leaks, broken equipment, power outages)
- Maintain fire safety equipment, including extinguishers and alarms, ensuring compliance with safety regulations
- Assist with setup of outdoor structures, including tents, shelters, and recreational facilities.
Equipment Maintenance:
- Inspect and maintain camp vehicles, lawn equipment, and other tools
- Ensure proper storage and maintenance of maintenance supplies and tools
Collaboration & Communication:
- Work closely with camp leadership and staff to address any maintenance issues or requests
- Communicate any safety concerns or necessary repairs to the camp management
General Support:
- Assist with event setup or breakdown, including setting up recreational equipment, tents, and furniture for camp activities
- Ensure cleanliness and functionality of common areas, such as kitchens, dining halls, and meeting spaces
- Perform any other duties as assigned by camp management related to facility and grounds upkeep
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent (preferred)
- Previous experience in general maintenance or facilities management (camp or outdoor settings a plus)
- Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and HVAC systems
- Ability to operate and maintain various tools and equipment
- Ability to lift and carry heavy items (up to 50 lbs) and perform physical tasks in varying weather conditions
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Good communication skills
- Must pass a background check
Working Conditions
- Position requires physical labor in an outdoor environment
- Occasional evening or weekend work may be required for special events or urgent maintenance issues
- Duration of employment typically from early summer to the end of the camp season wit opportunity for work into the fall

Please note that successful candidates are required to provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Record Check (18+) and Vulnerable Sector Check (18+), clear Child Abuse Registry Check, and valid Standard First Aid and CPR-C training at minimum. All YMCA employees are required to attend YMCA Child Protection Training.
