Position Overview: Julie Valentine Center is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Victim Advocate to provide support, crisis intervention, and advocacy for survivors of sexual violence. The ideal candidate will demonstrate trauma-informed care, cultural competence, compassion, and advocacy for clients and their loved ones during times of crisis and provide support and empowerment to survivors.
Job Description: The Victim Advocate is responsible for serving victims of sexual assault and their families through crisis intervention, advocacy, and case management. This position is full-time and is eligible for benefits.

Direct Service/ Crisis Intervention

Provide direct support to victims in the emergency room as well as on the hotline during the day and after hours (on a rotating basis).

Provide follow-up to victims seen in the ER

Provide on-call coverage on a rotating basis as part of the staff backup.

Work collaboratively with Crisis Coordinator and other agency staff to provide the highest quality services to clients.

Accompany victims to court and investigative meetings as requested.

Must have reliable transportation and cell phone service to respond to sexual assault victims in the ER and on the hotline.
Programmatic Support

Maintain monthly log of volunteer service hours

Create monthly grant report for Volunteer Advocates and Interns

Maintain needed supplies in the ER

Assist on-boarding and provide direct supervision of Crisis Program interns under the supervision of the Crisis Program Coordinator.
Building Community Relationships/ Advocacy/ Networking

Work with community partners to help maintain and strengthen community partnerships (Local Hospitals, Law Enforcement, Solicitor’s Office, DSS, etc)

Participate in the Greenville County Sexual Assault Response Team (SART)

Promote agency services and a positive image of the agency to the community.
Administrative

Maintain Victim Service Provider (VSP) credential by completing annual training requirements

Enhance professional growth and development through activities such as professional affiliations, conferences, workshops, etc.

Participate as a member of the JVC Team, participate in weekly Crisis Program team meetings, and attend agency staff meetings and supervision meetings.

Participate as a member of the JVC Team and attend fundraisers and other activities as assigned.

Perform other duties as assigned and/or requested.
Job Requirements:
Minimum Education: Bachelor’s Degree (Human Services-related field preferred)
Minimum Experience: 1 year preferred
Job Specific Knowledge, Skills, and Experience: Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills; experience and skill in providing crisis intervention and case management to victims of interpersonal violence; knowledge of criminal justice system and victim services; reliable cellular phone access to respond to the hotline; must have reliable transportation and live within 30 miles of the Greenville Health System
