 The Operations Manager (Early AM/Overnight) is responsible for leading the execution of our inventory flow process, including unloading trucks, filling our store and stockroom with the product, merchandising, visuals, cycle counts, and price changes.  You are responsible for maintaining a clean and productive stockroom as well as all front and back of house areas.  The Operations Manager will spend time collaborating with our daytime leadership team and partnering closely with our 3rd Party Logistics (3PL) partners, while always ensuring that incoming and outgoing products are well organized.  The Operations Manager will fully support the omnichannel customer experience while protecting the FAO Schwarz physical and financial assets.  The Operations Manager assists the Flagship Store Director and Senior Operations Manager in creating a diverse and inclusive culture for both store team and customers alike. This role will involve building strong relationships both internally and externally as well as being a dynamic spokesperson for the FAO Schwarz brand.  You will also be a strong advocate in helping us achieve our community goals – through volunteerism, philanthropy, and inviting organizations into our store to play and enjoy learning through our experiences.  You will actively support our marketing, events, and social media goals.

 As the Operations Manager (Early AM/Overnight), you will enjoy building strong teams, developing individuals, and delivering results and impact.  This position will have 3 direct reports, Operations Leads (Early AM/Overnight), key-holders who support you during the Early AM process and are responsible for leading all overnight operations in your absence.  You will also oversee our dayside Operations Lead who will execute your vision throughout regular business hours.  You will also have a team of Operations Associates (Early AM/Overnight) and those during regular business hours supporting the entire process.  You will work directly with your counterpart, the Operations Manager, to ensure a seamless transition between the day and overnight inventory process, always keeping our store and stockroom fresh and full of all products.  You will also work closely with store leadership and the larger store team.

 The Operations Manager (Early AM/Overnight) will report to the Senior Operations Manager and will work a rotating, full-time schedule including overnights, early mornings, and rotating weekends.

 What You’ll Do

 This role has 5 key areas of responsibility:

 Store Operations

Lead a strong operational culture for the store and otherwise support the Flagship Store Director and Flagship Store Manager in all facets of running the store.  The Operations Manager (Early AM/Overnight) will act as the Manager on Duty during all scheduled overnight shifts, moving throughout the store and back of house areas to interact with the team, ensuring that the entire business is running productively and professionally.

 Customer Experience

Ensure a world-class omnichannel shopping experience for all customers.  Our physical and eCommerce stores are the public face of the FAO Schwarz brand, where everyone can directly experience all that is possible with FAO Schwarz.  Establish the highest level of customer experience by setting expectations of excellence in the execution of store standards, product demonstrations, personal shopping, marketing and events, community partnerships, exclusive flagship experiences, and profound knowledge of our products and the FAO Schwarz brand.

 Logistics

Ensure that both incoming and outgoing product to/from our 3PL facility in New Jersey is well organized and productively staged in our stockroom and on the sales floor at Rockefeller Center.  Oversee any merchandising, visuals, and price changes on the sales floor, while always maintaining a clean and productive stockroom. Work closely with our 3PL provider on accurate daily replenishment to our physical store, including both day and overnight deliveries.  Support seamless deliveries to our omnichannel customers, whether they buy in our physical store, online, or we courier their product to their hotel from the store.  Develop a strong relationship with our Corporate logistics partners, 3PL partners, and our outsourced Call Center.

 Sales

Actively drive omnichannel sales in all areas of the business, working with the store leadership to build and grow effective teams that are maximizing results.  Ensure that everyone on the team is consistently delivering a world-class experience through entertaining product demonstrations, engaging customer interactions, professional personal shopping, and ever-evolving experiences.  Collaborate with the Flagship Store Director and Flagship Store Manager to initiate and lead business change efforts to achieve maximize desired revenue and payroll results.

 Specialists

You will indirectly support the Senior Operations Manager in the guidance and leadership of our specialist roles, always providing support to this team even in the absence of the Senior Operations Manager.

 Ensure that our store is maintained in pristine condition and that our Facilities Specialist is proactive in responding to critical issues that occur through normal wear and tear or larger-scope maintenance items that require a vendor to be brought onsite.  The Facilities Specialist will also be responsible for ordering all store supplies, managing our Cleaning Company, our Security Company, and ensuring that we stay on-time and on-budget with the maintenance items that are required. 

 You will also make sure that our store is running smoothly and without any connectivity issues.  You will need to ensure that our IT Specialist stays current on training and is able to support our store team and occasionally our corporate team with all IT-related items, including ordering IT supplies and equipment, maintaining counts and repairs for all of our electronic equipment in the store, and supporting in-store and off-site events and experiences with our AV/IT needs.

 Lead all visuals for the store and ensure that our Visuals Specialist is teaching our team about merchandising guidelines and standards, working closely with our corporate team to order fixtures, visual supplies, develop planograms for both our FAO Schwarz and vendor-partner shops within the store, and analyzing the sales of products within each shop to maximize results and deliver our customers the best merchandise for their needs.  This individual should be able to lead and execute all planogram changes in the store, label/sign/price changes, and window graphic & window display changes.  They should conduct market walks to ensure that we are locally competitive both brick & mortar and online.

 What We’ll Expect You to Have

  • A sense of whimsy, a nostalgia for toys, and a fondness for the FAO Schwarz brand
  • Excellent collaboration, communication, time management, analytical, and interpersonal skills
  • Store Management experience with a high attention to detail
  • Overnight/Early AM Logistics Store Management experience preferred
  • The ability to work an Early AM shift during non-peak season or an Overnight shift during peak season/Holiday
  • Strong computer skills including a working knowledge of Microsoft Office: Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Microsoft Teams a plus
  • Knowledge of a Retail Store P&L
  • Knowledge of and experience with retail POS Systems and operations
  • Bachelor’s or Master's Degree in business, retail management or related and equivalent experience
  • At least 4+ years of strong logistics and retail leadership experience in a high profile, big-box, or multi-unit setting
  • Capable of lifting up to 50 pounds on a regular basis, bending and twisting and standing for long periods of time
  • The ability to work an Early AM shift during non-peak season or an Overnight shift during peak season/Holiday
  • Proven ability to lead and remain positive, resilient, adaptable, and succeed in a fast-paced, public-facing retail environment
