Position Overview

This is a permanent position reporting to the Camp Kindle Director of Operations.

The primary function of the Facility Manager is to oversee the safe, efficient, and high-quality operation of all Camp Kindle facilities, assets, grounds, vehicles and infrastructure systems. This role is responsible for all maintenance, asset and systems management, health & safety, security, transportation and groundskeeping systems required at Camp Kindle.

Key Areas of Responsibility

In accordance with the approved KCC policies, the Facility Manager will be responsible for the following operations, protocols and services related to Camp Kindle.

Leadership & General Operations

  • Demonstrate awareness of the needs of young people with a history of cancer and their families.
  • Operate the maintenance and facilities services within the annual budget.
  • Supervise, schedule, and support Maintenance staff, including recruitment and completion of all required HR processes.
  • Maintain accurate inventory of camp property, tools, equipment, vehicles and furnishings.
  • Utilize professional computer applications to generate reports, schedules, and communications.
  • Actively participate in management meetings, strategic planning and the manager level decision making process related to Camp Kindle operations.
  • Collaborate with all departments regarding scheduling and facility requirements for user groups.

Health, Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure all facilities, assets and grounds are maintained to a superior standard of safety and upkeep.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable Health & Safety legislation, codes and KCC safety policies.
  • Conduct hazard assessments prior to initiating work and ensure appropriate controls are in place.
  • Develop, implement, and follow procedures for daily operations and for opening and closing facilities.
  • Maintain accurate safety and maintenance records.
  • Report equipment failures, risks, maintenance, or security concerns directly to the Director of Operations.

Maintenance, Assets & Systems Management

  • Ensure all camp assets are maintained safely, efficiently, and in a timely manner, including closures or repairs as required.
  • Develop cost-effective practices for facilities, vehicles, and grounds operations.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant laws, codes and standards related to camp assets and systems.
  • Maintain current training and proficiency with the Amaresco Asset Management Program.
  • Ensure the Amaresco Asset Management Program, including certifications, inspections, repairs and replacements, are accurately tracked and completed.
  • Utilize the Amaresco Preventative Maintenance module to manage daily, weekly, monthly and annual inspections and tasks.
  • Oversee Camp Kindle water and wastewater systems, including required testing, reporting and regulatory compliance.

Transportation Safety

  • Oversee and organize protocols for camp vehicle usage on site and public roadways.
  • Manage inspections, maintenance and compliance for all camp vehicles as required.
  • Serve as the designated as the "Safety Manager" for all camp vehicles.
  • Oversee all training, testing and safe usage of all employees operating camp vehicles.
  • Document and report all vehicle incidents involving damage or injury directly to the Director of Operations.

Security

  • Develop and oversee security protocols to ensure facilities and equipment are properly locked and secured when not in use.
  • Monitor the site for evidence of unauthorized or improper use of facilities or equipment.
  • Ensure boundaries and access points are clearly marked and maintained.

Grounds Keeping

  • Maintain campgrounds to a pristine, safe and welcoming standard.
  • Develop and implement grounds maintenance schedules with minimal impact on programming.
  • Ensure all employees operating machinery are properly trained in proper usage prior to operating the equipment.
  • Maintain groundskeeping equipment and manage pest and wildlife control.
  • Work with Fire Smart Alberta to reduce wildfire risk and mitigate potential damage.

Site Coordination with Volunteer Groups

  • Organize and oversee Kindle Care Days (volunteer work groups), including job planning, material preparation, PPE and safety briefings groups.
  • Identify and prepare appropriate projects for Kindle Care Days.
  • Coordinate scheduling with camp staff and KCC representatives.
  • Ensure all materials, tools and PPE are prepared and available.
  • Conduct safety orientations prior to volunteer activities.

Client Relations/Hosting

  • Coordinate facility and grounds use with the management team for KCC and external user groups.
  • Assist with guest services and hosting as required.

Education, Certifications and Experience

  • Minimum of ten years of maintenance and operations experience, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated skills in electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and carpentry work.
  • Experience with building systems, custodial services, general repairs, engine maintenance, standard shop equipment, and maintenance techniques.
  • Holder of Alberta Small Water Operator’s Certificate or ability to achieve.
  • Certified Pool Operators license is an asset.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Other Requirements

  • Must provide a current Level 2 Criminal Records Check includes vulnerable sector search.
  • Valid driver's license, clear driver's abstract and ability to provide own transportation.
