Membership Specialist–Hybrid position based in Washington, D.C., with part-time telework

 

The American Association of University Professors (AAUP) a fast-growing union of higher education workers, invites applications for a Membership Specialist. AAUP represents academic workers at colleges and universities nationwide. We are uniting and mobilizing faculty, staff, and students in order to advance a transformative vision for higher education. The Membership Specialist will be a primary point of contact for AAUP members and potential members who have questions, need to update their contact information, or request help with solving problems related to their membership. The ideal applicant will have excellent oral and written communication skills, experience working collaboratively with organization members and staff, and the ability to convey complex information accurately and concisely.

Duties and Responsibilities:

This position will include the following responsibilities:

  • Promptly respond to email and phone inquiries from AAUP members.
  • Advise members and potential members of AAUP benefits, policies, and procedures.
  • Verify and update membership records and chapter rosters in Salesforce database.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve problems related to membership.
  • Contact AAUP chapter leaders to confirm and update membership information.
  • Provide membership data to AAUP leaders and staff for use in organizing, communications, finance, legal, and other programs.
  • Collaborate on projects to improve membership systems and processes.
  • Compile membership data to support AAUP national, state conference, and local chapter compliance with legal, reporting, and election requirements.
  • Liaise with external database and membership services vendors.
  • Staff registration desks and perform other tasks at AAUP conferences and events.
  • Generate reports for the governing Council, Membership Committee, Executive Director, and other AAUP bodies.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Required Qualifications

  • Three years’ Salesforce CRM experience.
  • Experience working in a member-facing role in labor unions or membership-based non-profit organizations.
  • Experience interacting courteously and constructively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and perspectives, with a strong commitment to racial and gender equity.
  • Demonstrable proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly in Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience with remote meeting platforms such as Zoom.
  • Diligent attention to detail and data accuracy.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with different audiences in oral and written formats.
  • Excellent time-management skills, including the ability to respond to multiple requests, simultaneously manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and meet departmental benchmarks and deadlines.
  • Associate degree or equivalent work experience.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Five years’ Salesforce CRM experience.
  • Experience working as union staff.
  • Bachelor's degree.

Compensation

 

Salary range is $57,018.43 – $70,895.26. AAUP offers a generous benefits package that includes health, dental, and vision insurance; paid sick days; paid vacations days; and 401(K).

 

Position Classification

 

This regular full-time position is categorized as an assistant position and is included in the staff union bargaining unit. This is a non-exempt position and is eligible for overtime pay.

 

Work Location

 

This position is located in the DC office with an option for part-time telework.
