SUMMARY:  Development and execution of community engagement strategies to build social cohesion and civic engagement in communities in Miami-Dade County. Provide relevant training and resources to build the skill and will of resident leaders to take on leadership roles in their community. This position also has the responsibility for developing an outreach strategy including volunteer engagement, faith community partnerships, and community mobilization that lead to stronger engagement and partnerships within Miami Dade County.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee neighborhood-based work (Resilience hubs) and creating tailored community engagement strategies for diverse communities
  • Manage the creation and execution of an overall plan for community engagement, including raising awareness about the organization, and the development of engagement and partnership pathways for individuals and organizations that align with our mission and vision
  • Works with department colleagues and other staff to align engagement strategy with policy advocacy agenda and opportunities for engagement
  • Develop community engagement goals for Catalyst programs
  • Establish ongoing community feedback mechanisms to increase responsiveness to community needs
  • Oversees larger systems-focused leadership programs including but not limited to STEP UP
  • Employ quantitative and qualitative approaches to glean community input
  • Actively host community meetings and town hall to inform programming, including semi-annual gatherings of diverse leaders
  • Provides relevant skills-building training for community residents
  • Provides pathway for community engagement strategies that lead to greater social cohesion in low wealth communities
  • Foster positive and collaborative relationships with community residents, local nonprofit organizations, faith-based organizations, businesses, and student organizations
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by management

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Directly supervises 3 employees within the Policy & Engagement department.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Language: Professional working proficiency in oral and written English.  Proficiency in oral and written Spanish and/or Haitian Creole.
  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree
  • Certification or license: N/A
  • Years of experience: 8 years
  • Computer skills required: Microsoft Office Suite and working knowledge of web-based platforms.  
  • Other skills required: Demonstrated experience with community organizing, community engagement, marketing and communications, strong public speaking and writing skills, events management, and the ability to recruit, manage, and cultivate volunteer leadership.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds
  • Ability to work in a shared-workspace environment
  • Stretch and bend to organize and distribute materials for Catalyst Miami activities
  • Able to sit at a desk for long periods of time and utilize a computer for extended periods
  • Must be able to work flexible hours to accommodate organization needs, including evenings and weekends. Out of town travel may be required.
