Opportunity:

On an on-call basis, the casual Early Childhood Education Assistant is primarily responsible for providing care for children from 0 to 6 years of age in the childcare programs during the absence of regular staff. The casual Early Childhood Educator Assistant/ Responsible Adult provides a caring and positive learning environment for children from 18 months to 6 years in the childcare programs. assisting with planning, preparing and delivering early childhood educational activities, in consultation with the Day Care Coordinator and/or the regular Early Childhood Educators. The Early Childhood Assistant/ Responsible adult supports the Early childhood Educators in planning and implementing age appropriate activities that foster learning and development. 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Is alert and responsive to children’s needs at all times, fostering a caring and positive learning environment.
  • Participates in planning for, and implements daily activities, and ensures that all activities are developmentally appropriate. Prepares materials and equipment for activities.
  • Supports the Early childhood Educators in the classroom with the preparation of materials and program delivery. 
  • Help create an engaging learning environment that encourages creativity, exploration and curiosity
  • Maintains the cleanliness of equipment and supplies.
  • Helps to maintain a clean and organized classroom environment.
  • Guides children in activities; telling stories, teaching songs, leading discussions.
  • Guides and assists children in the development of appropriate life skills and interactive behaviour. Helps children develop social skills, such as, sharing, cooperation and communication.
  • Ensures the safety and hygiene wellbeing of all children while in the centre.
  • Immediately reports instances of suspected child abuse to the Day Care Coordinator.
  • Adheres to the Centre’s guidelines for discipline and managing behaviours appropriately.
  • Adheres to DIVERSEcity Childcare Policy Manual and Procedures
  • Adheres to the childcare Licensing regulation. 
  • Maintains the cleanliness of equipment and supplies.
  • Adheres to DIVERSEcity and personnel policies, procedures and practices.
  • Any other duties as required.

Qualified Candidates will possess:

  • Early Childhood Education Assistant/Responsible Adult Certificate, with a minimum of one years’ experience working with children aged 0 – 6 years in a childcare setting.
  • Previous current and relevant experience in a childcare setting.
  • Understanding and sensitivity to the needs of young children, and their parents/caregivers.
  • Cross-cultural experience and knowledge of settlement issues.
  • Standard first aid and CPR training required
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, oral and written
