Hourly Rate: $15.00
Schedule: This position is a part-time position of no more than 20 hours per week. The schedule will vary to accommodate departmental staffing needs and will be determined in collaboration with the Director of Education. Some evenings and weekends are required. ** PLEASE KNOW: at this time, we are looking for individuals available Monday through Friday, in the mornings, between 9 AM and 12 PM for tours and Outreaches. **
Summary: The Museum Educator assists with developing and presenting science-based educational programs and facilitates gallery interpretation, tours, outreaches, virtual programs, scout programs, camps, special events, interactive labs, scout & community overnights, and more.
Essential Functions:
· Uphold the highest quality of guest experience through equitable, respectful interactions that meet the unique needs of each guest and team member.
· Be conversant in the museum’s mission, exhibits, collections, programs, and the guest experience service philosophy and practices to enhance the guest experience.
- Implement and present educational programs, demonstrations, and workshops that align with the museum’s mission and target audience.
- Lead guided tours of museum exhibits and galleries, providing in-depth explanations and answering questions to enhance guest understanding.
- Interact with museum guests, answer questions, and provide information about exhibits and scientific concepts.
- Create interactive and hands-on activities to make scientific concepts accessible and engaging to diverse audiences.
- Assist with program and event assessment and evaluation to improve and enhance content.
- Assist with customizing tours for different age groups and educational levels.
- Create and maintain a positive, creative, inclusive, and curious educational group culture among guests, including seniors and those with special needs.
- Ensure program group participants and guests comply with museum contracts and safety practices.
- May be offered the opportunity to assist with the care of the museum’s live ambassador animals.
Minimum Qualifications:
· Coursework or degree in education or education-related field.
· Experience working in a classroom or informal educational setting; experience in special education preferred.
· Bilingual preferred, not expected
· Early childhood experience preferred, not expected
- Ability to work comfortably within a variety of settings including indoors, outdoors, and virtually.
- Ability to take science concepts and present them at an age-appropriate level.
- Knowledge of natural history or interest and willingness to learn.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to relate to diverse age groups and educational levels in a positive and professional manner.
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to use personal vehicle for outreach programs and events.
· First Aid/CPR/AED certified, or willingness to become certified.
