Director of Nursing
1. POSITION PURPOSE (Summary)
The DON/Perioperative Director assumes responsibility and accountability for staff in the Operating Room, Preop, PACU, sterile processing and surgery scheduling. The DON/Director is responsible for supervision of staff in assessment, planning, directing, and documenting nursing care using the appropriate nursing process in accordance with the LA Nurse Practice Act, AORN/ASPAN and policies and procedures of LOSC. Must have a strong role in problem solving and conflict resolution with staff and customer service groups. The DON/Director supervises staff to ensure quality care and patient and physician satisfaction. This position requires the ability to effectively coordinate and communicate with all units and departments to ensure efficiency, planning, and readiness.
2. POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing, Bachelors’ Degree and or Masters Degree in nursing or related field preferred.
Experience:
3-5 years progressive supervisory and leadership experience in surgical services.
Licenses/Certificates:
La Registered Nurse License. Current BLS required, ACLS and PALS certification preferred.

LOSC Executive Administrator

Preop/PACU Team Leader, OR Team Leader, OR, Preop and PACU Staff, Scheduler, Instrument Technicians
3. GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
The DON/Director uses broad perioperative nursing and management background to plan, organize, staff and direct the perioperative departments (Preop, OR, PACU), to support services necessary to deliver comprehensive quality nursing care to the surgical patient. This involves evaluating and modifying goals, priorities, and organizational structures to provide optimum nursing care. Works closely with Purchasing/Materials Manager to ensure all equipment and supplies are available to deliver efficient and safe care. The DON/Director is responsible for the preparation and management of the annual capital and operational OR, Preop, and PACU budgets. The DON/Director is responsible for applicable policy and procedure development and monitoring adherence to the policies within the perioperative environment. The DON
/Director is responsible for assuring adherence to all regulatory standards and legal standards of nursing practice and staying current with required changes in service delivery. The DON/Director will design staff scheduling that meets the needs of patients, physicians and staff. The DON/Director will assist in the development and implementation of the quality assurance programs and evaluate the effectiveness of such plans. Must be flexible with duty hours.
