Job Summary

At Metanoia Youth Ministry we build our programming with conversion and lifelong relationship with God in mind, while growing together in community. As part of our ministry, we accompany teens in large and small group settings to help foster community and a desire for lifelong relationship with God.  

Purpose

The Parish Youth Ministry Coordinator performs a wide variety of activities to direct and coordinate a strong faith filled youth ministry aimed at helping youth grow as disciples of Jesus Christ. The Parish Youth Ministry Coordinator will be responsible for providing ministry opportunities to youth in grades 8-12. This person is to have purposeful engagement in relational ministry with both youth and parents.  In addition, the Coordinator provides opportunities for evangelization, catechesis, and invites youth to serve others and make disciples. To that end, the Parish Youth Ministry Coordinator is responsible for the development, coordination, supervision and execution of parish programs designed to engage the youth of the parish. He or she should develop close communication with, and mutual support from families of youth. 

Duties & Responsibilities 

  • Programming
  • Oversee and direct ministry (Middle School grade 6-8, High School grade 9-12) that provides a strong catechetical, social and relevant issue component to its sessions. 
  • Develop programs designed to evangelize and catechise teenagers of the Parish. 
  • Plan, promote, prepare resources, and execute weekly youth ministry programming. 
  • Assist with Confirmation Preparation as seen fit by the Parish Leadership Team & Faith Formation Coordinator. 
  • Attend conferences and events to support the ongoing development and growth of youth ministry 
  • Administration
  • Develops and oversees the Youth Ministry budget 
  • Recruit, intentionally accompanies and oversees all youth ministry volunteers 
  •  Act as the primary point person for Youth Ministry at the Parish. 
  • Network with other Youth Ministry staff and volunteers in the Archdiocese of Halifax-Yarmouth to enhance opportunities, experiences, and resources. 
  • Communicate directly with parents, parish groups, ministry volunteers, and the Pastor 

Qualifications 

  • Active spiritual life rooted in a growing relationship with Jesus Christ, committed to personal prayer, and active participation in a church community and has a passion for parish renewal. 
  • Strong communication and relationship‑building skills. 
  • Experience working with teens in the parish. 
  • Organizational and administrative strength with attention to detail. 
  • Comfortable recruiting and supporting volunteers. 
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and events simultaneously. 
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs 
  • Willingness to work occasional evenings or weekends as required for major parish initiatives or events.  
  • Embraces servant leadership - we lead by serving others. 
  • Creative, energetic, and able to connect with youth and families 

Conditions of Employment 

  • Satisfactory background check and in compliance with the Responsible Ministry Protocol  
  • Compliance with all relevant Archdiocesan policies 
  • This a part time position, 14-24 hours per week 
  • Frequent interaction with others
