Summary of Duties:
The Agricultural Assistant will assist with the various agricultural initiatives growing in the community. These include, but are not limited to, Qwal̓ímak Nlep̓cálten, and the Community Garden in Xet̓ólacw Village. The Agricultural Assistant will assist with all aspects of growing at Qwal̓ímak Nlep̓cálten, learning how to grow, harvest, and market, produce grown in the market garden.
Key Deliverables and Expectations:
- Assist with the planting of all seedlings in the greenhouse.
- Assist with planting, maintaining, and harvesting produce.
- Train to use tractors to develop fields and prepare planting beds.
- Assist with the maintenance of greenhouse plantings.
- Maintain tools and equipment to optimal operating standards.
- Engage in smaller carpentry projects and assist with larger ones when appropriate.
- Assist with community garden projects as required.
- Participate in training & education sessions as offered.
- Develop and assist with youth engagement activities.
- Assist with community engagement activities.
- Assist in developing food distribution models.
- Maintain and complete the daily activity and time sheets.
- Perform other related duties as requested.
Experience and Attributes:
- First Aid certification is an asset.
- Food Safe certification is an asset.
- Experience working with gardens, horticulture, or agriculture.
- Previous experience working with First Nations is an asset.
- Some working knowledge of Ucwalmícwts an asset.
- Strong communication skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision as well as be a cooperative and contributing member of a team.
- Must be physically fit and capable of carrying 50 lbs.
- Level 1 First Aid is an asset.
- Must be able to supply a clear criminal record check to work with children & vulnerable adults.
